Adult Day Care Support Worker
35 hours per week
Monday – Friday – 9am – 4.30pm
Pay rate: £12.84 per hour
Muirshiel Centre is a small local independent charity (Registered Charity SCO18185) based in Port Glasgow, offering day opportunities and support to adults for over 30 years in the Inverclyde area. Muirshiel Centre is deeply committed to providing high quality, responsive day services that meet the unique needs of older people with support needs living in Inverclyde (Greenock East, Port Glasgow, Kilmacolm and Quarriers Village).
To provide a quality day care service for older people respecting good practice in relation to privacy, dignity, independence, choice and empowerment. Provide flexible person-centred opportunities meeting the needs of both individual service users and their families.
Do you have a desire to work with people and care about helping others live fulfilling lives? As a Day Care Support Worker with Muirshiel Centre, you will have the opportunity to access full induction training and support.
We are looking for caring individuals who share our values. As a Support Worker, you will work with adults who have a wide range of support needs, including personal care support and encouraging them to achieve their own personal outcomes e.g. keeping safe, meaningful activities, physical health, relationships and socialisation, emotional health and wellbeing.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To participate in the assessment and care review process, including updating necessary service users' records.
2. To contribute towards the provision of day care opportunities that assist individuals and groups of service users maintain a range of practical and social skills.
3. To contribute towards the provision of transport services including escort/driver duties.
4. To contribute to ensuring that the centre is maintained to a high level of cleanliness including engagement in cleaning duties as and when required.
5. To contribute to the provision of meals including kitchen duties ensuring compliance with organisational food hygiene procedures.
6. To participate in both training and skills development as deemed appropriate by the organisation in support of service development and/or the provision of a flexible service.
7. To plan for social recreational activities ensuring premises are prepared and resources are available as required.
8. To plan for and participate in social recreational activities out with the centre.
9. To actively participate in staff meetings and formal supervision.
10. To be familiar with and adhere to all health and safety requirements and instructions.
11. To undertake any other duties deemed appropriate by service manager or management committee.
Person Specification
1. Basic IT experience including the use of laptops.
2. Basic numeracy and literacy.
3. Practical experience of working with older adults or those living with dementia or disabilities.
4. Good communication skills (both written and verbal), and a good listener.
5. Ability to stimulate individuals using a needs-based approach and have an awareness of individuals' right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
6. Ability to work on and use own initiative.
7. Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and at times, work independently.
8. Be enthusiastic, motivated and positive.
9. Ability to maintain confidentiality relating to sensitive or personal matters.
10. SVQ 2 or 3 in Social Services and Healthcare.
11. Training relevant to the post (for example, moving and handling or Adult Support and Protection).
12. Experience of working and communicating with both families and partner care and support agencies.
13. Full UK manual driving license with D1 endorsement and the ability/experience of driving a minibus.
