F/T Permanent Maintenance Technician required for Maghaberry. Job Purpose: The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for maintaining and repairing all production machinery and electrical systems within the facility. This includes performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and working closely with external technicians when specialised support is required. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both electrical systems and mechanical equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal production efficiency. Duties will include: Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on all electrical systems, production machinery, and equipment within the facility. Troubleshoot and resolve both electrical and mechanical issues on production machinery, including conveyors, mixers, packaging machines, and other equipment. Install, maintain, and repair electrical components such as motors, control panels, wiring, sensors, and power distribution systems. Production Machinery Maintenance: Take full responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of all production machinery, ensuring that equipment operates efficiently and safely. Conduct preventative maintenance and ensure that all machinery is operating according to manufacturer guidelines and production needs. Oversee machine modifications and upgrades to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety. External Technician Coordination: Liaise with external technicians and contractors when specialised support or repairs are needed, coordinating their work to minimise production disruptions. Ensure external service providers comply with company safety and quality standards when on-site. Monitor and review the performance of external contractors, ensuring timely and cost-effective solutions. Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities, particularly electrical work, comply with relevant health and safety regulations, including lockout/tagout procedures. Adhere to company standards, including food safety (HACCP, BRC) and electrical safety codes. Identify and mitigate potential hazards and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Operations Manager. Documentation & Reporting: Keep detailed records of all maintenance activities, including repairs, modifications, and preventative maintenance. Maintain accurate documentation for regulatory compliance, safety checks, and equipment performance. Provide reports on equipment performance, downtime, and maintenance interventions to inform operational improvements. Collaboration with Production & Quality Teams: Work closely with the Production and Quality teams to ensure that machinery is functioning optimally and meeting production targets. Assist production staff in diagnosing equipment issues and provide technical support to minimise downtime. Communicate effectively with the Operations teams regarding any maintenance challenges, solutions, and timelines for repairs. Continuous Improvement: Identify and propose opportunities for improving the efficiency and reliability of production machinery and electrical systems. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting and implementing technical upgrades or modifications to optimise equipment performance. Essential Criteria: Qualified Electrician with a recognized electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent). Additional certifications in mechanical maintenance, multi-skilled engineering, or a related discipline. Proven experience as an electrician in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably within the food production sector. Experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of production machinery and equipment. Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills for both electrical and mechanical issues. Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical diagrams, technical drawings, and schematics. Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple maintenance tasks and prioritise work efficiently. Desirable Criteria: Familiarity with working alongside external contractors and technicians for more complex maintenance tasks or specialised machinery support. Experience with control panels, and automated machinery is highly desirable. Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external service providers.
