We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Band 2 Clerical Officer to join our busy Medical Records Library Department at Leighton Hospital. The post holder will perform general administrative duties and manage the storage, retrieval, and management of patient health records.
Essential skills include excellent communication and organisational abilities, a confident and pleasant telephone manner, good IT skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.
This is a full-time, 6-month fixed-term position, working 37.5 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday, 6am-2pm.
Note: This role is physically demanding.
Main duties of the job
The Medical Records Library handles approximately 23,000 patient records requested monthly, with 29,000 returned within the same period.
This department operates 24/7, 365 days a year. Shift work is essential, and flexibility is required to meet patient demand. The initial shift pattern is Tuesday to Saturday, 6am-2pm.
The role involves retrieving, filing, and archiving patient records. You will also handle patient demographic updates and communicate with professionals across the Trust and wider health economy.
Attention to detail is critical due to the repetitive nature of tasks, and a positive attitude towards problem-solving is essential.
While current records are paper-based, there is a move towards electronic records, and the successful candidate will contribute to this transformation.

* Library: Managing storage, retrieval, and management of health records. Physically demanding role.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Maths and English (grade C or above) or equivalent, or successful completion of the Health Records/Outpatients rotational apprenticeship scheme.
* Understanding of confidentiality as per Data Protection Act and relevant guidelines.
* Knowledge of Trust systems: PCS, Somerset, NHS e-Referral Service, Bookwise, Envoy.
* European Computer Driving Licence.
