We are recruiting a part-time Support Worker to support one gentleman in his 30s to live independently within supported living. The successful applicant must be confident to work independently as we provide person-centred 1:1 support within this home.
Supporting this gentleman, you will be changing the style of support from 'caring for' to 'working with', promoting independence and helping people to take an active part in their own lives.
What does it involve?
No two days will be the same; you will enjoy variety and assist this gentleman in the following ways:
* Helping, encouraging, supporting, and teaching the people we support to do their housework, including cleaning and laundry.
* Recognising and celebrating what the person can do for themselves.
* Supporting, encouraging, and teaching people to maintain personal and intimate care as required, such as dressing themselves, showering/bathing, using the toilet, etc.
* Supporting people with their medication.
* You will help the people we support to shop for things they wish to buy including their clothes and food, and to prepare their meals as required.
* Helping the people we support to manage their own money.
The successful Support Worker will also support him to take part in a wide range of special interests that support his health and wellbeing, including activities such as going to York to the railway museum, visiting theme parks, the zoo, coffee shops, and attending his favourite TV shows!
Be prepared to work flexibly, including working 10am - 9pm, 10am - 2pm, or 6pm - 10pm. Alternative weekends and bank holidays will be included.
We want you to develop professionally as a support worker. This means that you are expected to get involved and contribute to meetings, work towards gaining qualifications about your work, attend training courses, and be willing to learn new things and ways of working.
