Your work will change lives. Including your own.
The Impact You'll Make
As a key member of Recursion's portfolio-facing data science team, you will be at the forefront of reimagining drug discovery from first principles using Recursion's massive data and compute capabilities. You will be the primary computational lead for a portfolio of preclinical or clinical-stage drug programs and will be responsible for collaboratively defining and executing a research strategy that defines the most promising patient populations for our therapeutics entering the clinic. You will integrate matched molecular and clinical data from oncology patients with layers of Recursion platform data (phenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, etc) to validate the link between target and disease biology and propose clinical development opportunities. You will partner with machine learning and computational scientists from across the organization to develop, deploy, and scale novel approaches to patient selection and indication expansion that match the medicines we are creating to the patients who need them.
In this role, you will:
1. Evaluate new data sources, develop and scale new analysis methods, and drive key program decisions with the ultimate goal of bringing life-changing therapies to patients at unprecedented speed.
2. Evaluate the molecular evidence for therapeutic hypotheses and accelerate drug program progression into the clinic, primarily in oncology.
3. Pilot novel methods for patient stratification and indication selection or expansion in oncology.
4. Deliver biological insights on therapeutic candidates and disease biology from the analysis of high dimensional (phenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, patient-derived) datasets that support clinical development planning.
5. Present data analysis to decision makers and stakeholders in a clear and compelling way that drives toward getting medicines to patients.
6. Industrialize analysis approaches to not only solve for the current project, but also to accelerate future projects and scale the impact that we can have.
7. Collaborate cross-functionally with Recursion's data science, platform, ML and clinical teams to further advance Recursion's ability to interpret and translate large-scale data assets into therapeutic programs.
The Team You'll Join
Our group is a bold, agile, diverse collective of computational drug discovery scientists deeply focused on the singular goal of bringing new therapeutics into the clinic at an accelerated pace. You will collaborate extensively with scientists across the organization to advance milestones, provide insights and drive decisions that further advance Recursion's capabilities and likelihood of success in the clinic. Essential attributes to this role include a bold, execution-first attitude and passion for deploying rigorous science to develop life-changing medicines.
The Experience You'll Need
1. PhD in a relevant field (computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, cancer/cell biology, etc.) with a very strong computational focus and 5+ years of experience in biotech or pharma industry solving fundamental problems in oncology or drug discovery OR MS in a relevant field and 7+ years of experience in biotech or pharma industry solving fundamental problems in oncology or drug discovery.
2. Experience applying computational methods (including probabilistic, statistical, and/or machine learning techniques) to analyze and integrate matched human clinical and molecular data in a high-level programming language such as Python or R.
3. Experience in efficiently advancing drug programs from proof of concept and into clinical development.
4. Deep expertise in the analysis and data integration of two or more 'omics data modalities (phenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, genomics), including experience working with patient data.
5. Exceptional data visualization skills.
6. Excellent cross-functional communication skills, including an ability to explain complex scientific concepts to a variety of audiences using a combination of plots, documents, and presentations.
Nice To Have:
1. Experience analyzing data from imaging-based modalities.
2. Experience with oncology clinical trial biomarker analysis.
3. Experience working collaboratively with biometrics and statistical sciences.
Working Location:
This position is ideally based at one of our offices located in London / New York City / Toronto / Salt Lake City. Please note that we are a hybrid environment and ask that employees spend 50% of their time in the office.
The Values That We Hope You Share:
1. We Care: We care about our drug candidates, our Recursionauts, their families, each other, our communities, the patients we aim to serve and their loved ones. We also care about our work.
2. We Learn: Learning from the diverse perspectives of our fellow Recursionauts, and from failure, is an essential part of how we make progress.
3. We Deliver: We are unapologetic that our expectations for delivery are extraordinarily high. There is urgency to our existence: we sprint at maximum engagement, making time and space to recover.
4. Act Boldly with Integrity: No company changes the world or reinvents an industry without being bold. It must be balanced; not by timidity, but by doing the right thing even when no one is looking.
5. We are One Recursion: We operate with a 'company first, team second' mentality. Our success comes from working as one interdisciplinary team.
