The Medical Education Faculty is delighted to announce the development of a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry/Clinical Teaching Fellow in Simulation Development.
The post holder will spend 2 days per week working in a clinical capacity and three days per week undertaking simulation/medical education work.
Main duties of the job
The medical education component of the role will involve the delivery, support, and assessment of medical students from the medical schools that we partner. You will act as a direct source of educational advice offering guidance to clinical and medical staff on all aspects of the Simulation Agenda. You will agree and contribute to teaching programme design and be actively involved in the development/review of teaching material - specifically with a simulation focus.
You will also have regular Medical Education Supervision support sessions and opportunity for development and feedback on your teaching skills.
The clinical component of the role is not yet fixed, and it is our intention to match the successful candidates to a work area where the service would benefit from additional medical support.

Job responsibilities
Expected Medical Education activity:
* Contribute to the development, planning, delivery and monitoring of teaching for relevant medical school undergraduate students, working with the Undergraduate Tutors, Nurse Lead, Simulation Tutor and Medical Education Faculty.
* Act as a direct source of educational advice offering guidance to clinical and medical staff on all aspects of the Simulation agenda.
* Agree and contribute to teaching programme design and be actively involved in the development and review of teaching material- specifically with a simulation focus.
* Support the development of additional placements, i.e. SSCs, SSIPs etc.
* Undertake and evaluate at least one innovative Simulation project or piece of quality improvement work and to present at least one poster at a regional/national conference.
* Plan, improve and deliver simulation teaching activities & be involved in facilitation and delivery of simulation projects run by the Medical Education Faculty and in collaboration with the Simulation Tutor.
* Lead, with support from the Simulation Tutor, on adapting current undergraduate teaching materials into a Simulation Based Education format.
* Support Medical Education Faculty Events in terms of organisation and delivery.
* Monitor and formatively assess medical student performance in practice offering expert advice and feedback regarding their educational and professional development.
* Attend some operational meetings and liaise with medical education nurses and Clinical teaching fellows about how simulation may best meet the undergraduate curricula.
* Participate in other activities within the Medical Education faculty that link in with the Simulation agenda & supporting other teaching fellows in the Trust.

Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* MRCPsych or equivalent psychiatric qualification.
Experience
* At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in a core psychiatry training programme in UK or abroad.
* Able to demonstrate good clinical skills and knowledge in psychiatry with a bio-psycho-social perspective.
* Able to demonstrate good clinical communication skills showing empathy and sensitivity.
