Workshop Manager Weston-Super-Mare £50,000 per annum Permanent, Full-time Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 (day shifts, with occasional overtime and on-call responsibilities for emergencies) We’re recruiting a Workshop Manager for a well-established passenger transport company in the West Country, with a proud history spanning over a century. Based in Weston-super-Mare, BS23 3DN, UK, this growing firm operates a mixed fleet of over 80 vehicles, including buses, coaches, and light vehicles, delivering essential transport services across the region. As Workshop Manager, you’ll oversee the maintenance and performance of a diverse fleet, ensuring every vehicle meets the highest standards of safety and reliability. Leading a team of 10 engineers, you’ll report directly to Director level, playing a key role in driving the company’s success. Your responsibilities will include: Driving workshop efficiency by managing workloads, prioritising repairs, and minimising vehicle downtime to keep services running smoothly. Ensuring high maintenance standards across workshop and roadside activities, exceeding DVSA legislation for compliance and safety. Fostering a positive, safe working environment through best practices, health and safety compliance, and clear team communication. Managing resources effectively, including staffing levels, overtime, holiday schedules, and parts inventory to maintain operational flow. Keeping accurate records of all maintenance activities, ensuring timely documentation and compliance with audit requirements. Contributing to company goals and service targets by optimising workshop performance and upholding values of safety, reliability, and customer service. Supporting staff development, including training apprentices and ensuring team competency. Who We’re Looking For: A motivated leader with a strong engineering background and proven management skills. Essential requirements include: A relevant Level 3 qualification (e.g., City & Guilds or NVQ in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or Automotive Engineering). Advanced Irtec Accreditation to demonstrate your technical expertise. At least 2 years of supervisory or management experience in a PSV (Public Service Vehicle) or HGV maintenance environment, leading engineering teams. Strong analytical and numerical skills for performance monitoring and cost tracking. Proficiency with computer applications, including workshop management software, for efficient administration. Exceptional organisational skills to juggle multiple priorities and maintain a smooth-running workshop. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with other departmental managers and inspire your team.
