Applications are invited from enthusiastic and experienced Phlebotomists or equally unqualified persons willing to undertake training, to join a dynamic team of Phlebotomists under the auspices of Dorset County Hospital. Following successful completion of their training, the post will support Phlebotomy outpatient services operating at both South Walks House in the centre of Dorchester and at Weymouth Community Hospital.
You will join our forward thinking, friendly and pro-active team providing a high quality and compassionate service to our patients.
We are looking for self motivated and hard working team players with good manual dexterity, excellent communication skills and flexibility.
The service initially offered at South Walks House and Weymouth Community Hospital will initially focus on Monday to Friday with the plan going forwards to support the service 7 days a week. Competency in Venepuncture would be an advantage however full training and support will be provided.
• To safely and efficiently perform venepuncture on all patients requiring blood tests requested by DCHFT.
• Prepare patients for venepuncture, cannulation and blood cultures ensuring they are given the opportunity to discuss their concerns and individual needs.
• To observe and report any side effects or untoward incidents which may occur as a result of the venepuncture/cannulation procedure, relating to the patient or phlebotomist.
• To contribute to the efficient running of the phlebotomy service on a daily basis.
• To adhere to the Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
• To establish a relationship of trust and understanding with patients and other staff groups ensuring that a good public image and perception of phlebotomy is maintained at all times.
• To provide an efficient and high quality service to all patients and users.
