We are looking for a highly motivated Design Technology Technician who will provide high-quality technical support to our Design Technology and Food Technology departments. The technician will play a vital role in preparing and maintaining tools, supplies, and resources, ensuring that both staff and students can safely and efficiently engage in practical learning. Your support will help create an engaging, hands-on environment for students. Key attributes will include flexibility, an approachable and positive manner, and an ability to work effectively with children aged 11-16.

The Role
We are seeking a Design & Technology Technician to provide high-quality technical support to our Design Technology and Food Technology departments. The technician will play a vital role in preparing and maintaining tools, supplies, and resources, ensuring that both staff and students can safely and efficiently engage in practical learning. Your support will help create an engaging, hands-on environment for students.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide technical assistance, practical support and information in the preparation and use of equipment and materials for teaching and learning, including the use, cleaning and minor maintenance of bandsaws, lathes, miller, planer, circular saw, grinders, sanders, drills, and electrical items including ovens, microwaves, kettles and fridges, ensuring equipment is maintained to a high standard at all times.
2. Liaising with the School Business Manager and Estates Manager, maintain and update Health & Safety records including periodic equipment and LEV checks, risk assessments, safe systems of work, COSHH assessments, service schedules and site audits within the technology remit.
3. Contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialised systems and resources, including setting up a CAD / CAM equipment. Support practical workshop sessions in Engineering (and Product Design where required) and Food Technology with supervision, practical instruction and demonstrations.
4. Support small groups of students/individual students with practical sessions during lessons and in enrichment opportunities as directed by the teacher and prepare materials for student project work.
5. Promote and encourage positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
6. Monitor and manage stock and order supplies, in accordance with the school’s procurement and financial procedures. Ensuring stock is managed and stored appropriately.
7. Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly, clean and productive working environment and classrooms.
8. Attend relevant meetings, open evenings, and events as needed, while also participating in required training, learning activities, and performance management. Assist with emergency evacuations and provide first aid under the direction of the Estates Manager. Additionally, supervise pupils outside of lesson times, including during lunch and extracurricular activities as and when required.

2. Person Specification
Essential qualification
Willing to undertake any additional training as required.
Desirable
* NVQ 2 or equivalent qualification or substantial experience in an engineering, construction, or technology-based discipline.
* Design & Technology Association Accredited Health and Safety Certification.
Experience
* Previous experience working with power machining such as lathes, drills and millers in a commercial or educational setting.
* Previous experience in working with students.
Skills/Knowledge
* Health & Safety Knowledge / training.
* In depth knowledge of design technology and a detailed awareness of all relevant legislation e.g. Health and Safety Codes of Practice, COSHH, PUWER, Manual Handling, Risk Assessment.
* Strong ICT skills.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate well to children and adults.
* To keep up to date and follow Health & Safety guidance for Technician (CLEAPS).

* Good numeracy / literacy skills.
