The team is responsible for managing Ofcom’s engagement with our counterpart regulators, industry, academia and other relevant stakeholders around the world. We exchange views and share best practices on all issues of relevance to Ofcom, such as media regulation, online safety, network resilience and digital markets. We use these international insights to inform how we design and apply regulation in the UK, and to support Ofcom’s regulatory thinking and horizon-scanning work. We also share our expertise with international partners and seek to influence regulatory developments in the sectors that matter to us. We represent Ofcom globally, including through holding leadership roles in a variety of European and global forums. The purpose and scope of the Role You will be focusing on international broadcast and media policy. Your work will help ensure that Ofcom’s policy making and the decisions we make are enriched by international evidence, experience, and expertise. You will also continue to strengthen Ofcom’s reputation globally by collaborating with external stakeholders, such as other media regulators around the globe. Your policy focus will take in a diverse and exciting range of topics, such as media pluralism, online platform regulation and public service media sustainability. Although you will be mainly working on broadcast and media policy, you will also contribute to other areas of Ofcom’s work where there are overlaps or occasional needs, such as digital markets and online safety. Your key responsibilities Monitoring, analysing and sharing insights and intelligence on international broadcast and media regulatory developments. Providing analysis of international broadcast and media issues and communicating these in writing and verbally. Contributing to briefings and summaries for senior Ofcom colleagues. Representing Ofcom in international engagements, including meetings, workshops, and conferences with other regulators and stakeholders. Cultivating existing relationships with regulators, policymakers, civil society, and academia, to enhance cross-border regulatory coherence and facilitate the sharing of best practices. Ensuring international considerations are at the heart of Ofcom’s policy development, by working with and alongside internal project teams on their broadcast and media deliverables. Collaborating across the International Team on other areas of work as needed. This role is likely to include some international travel, mainly in Europe. A good understanding of the UK regulatory environment and how Ofcom’s international work contributes to the achievement of its strategic objectives. Desirable Knowledge and experience of broadcasting and media policy would be helpful. Knowledge and experience of digital markets and/or online safety would also be helpful.
