Avantor is looking for a Cell Bank Specialist to join the team based in Cambridge, UK. In this position you’ll be part of the team that is responsible for delivery of support activities to our client’s cell culture and banking science function, operating in accordance with respective H&S and GLS requirements.
This opportunity would suit an experienced Senior Research Technician or Scientist with multiple years’ experience of performing mammalian cell culture, banking, and aseptic techniques, who seeks a working pattern that bridges and includes the weekend. The role will encompass the supervision of a small team and hold responsibility for the output of the team across the weekend.
This role will be a part-time temporary position (12-months FTC), based in a brand-new facility at the customer site - The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Working hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday from 8:00/9:00 until 16:00/17:00. In total 32 hours a week.
The Team
You’ll be a part of the newly established Cell Biology group of 3. The team is responsible for a range of laboratory tasks to support cell culture.
You’ll be part of the initial test phase pilot programme, with a possibility for the position to become permanent upon the successful completion of the project.
Who we're looking for
* Education: Biological Science degree or multiple years’ experience within a mammalian cell science laboratory, leading and training other technicians.
* Experience:
* Experienced in mammalian cell, tissue culture, and aseptic techniques with a strong understanding of cell culture growth in a range of cell lines is essential.
* Laboratory knowledge of research processes and procedures, compliance with Health and Safety regulations and requirements.
* Conversant and experienced at using IT systems, platforms, and generic applications (training provided for in-house specifics).
* Technical troubleshooting capabilities and experience of performing laboratory support activities.
* Proven ability to flex to meet task re-prioritisation and to work efficiently in a team with minimal supervision.
How you'll thrive and create an impact
* Perform routine mammalian cell culture and banking, reagent and media preparation, and aliquoting.
* Cell QC testing and analysis.
* Capture shift task requirements and conduct an effective handover with the customer to meet supply requests.
* Act as Point of Contact for the Cell Bank and Science teams, actively engaging to understand and facilitate their business requirements and working towards an optimised cadence and work pattern.
* Ensure appropriate and effective delegation of tasks during the shift to ensure quality of products and optimised resource productivity.
