Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Benign Lower Gastrointestinal, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction.
Croydon Health Services Trust provides a broad range of elective and emergency services to a population of almost 400,000 across the borough of Croydon, delivered across Croydon University Hospital (450-bed acute hospital) and Purley War Memorial Hospital (outpatients).
The department wishes to appoint a substantive Consultant in Colorectal and General Surgery with an interest in benign colorectal disease and abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR). This 10 PA post has been developed in response to increasing demand in benign colorectal and complex hernia workload. This post is not initially intended to include cancer resection surgery. Experience in advanced AWR techniques and MDT working is essential, and familiarity with managing inflammatory bowel disease and other colorectal diseases is important. A research background and experience in management of complex abdominal wall hernias is desirable.
The candidate will be expected to integrate within the team of existing consultants to provide a complete General Surgery service while meeting London Emergency Surgery standards of care. There will be a requirement for the successful candidate to provide regular endoscopy (lower GI) lists, elective benign lower gastrointestinal surgery, as well as emergency general surgery. There will be an opportunity to work with consultant colleagues in the development of new, more effective patient care pathways in both elective and emergency patients with complicated hernia and other general surgical presentations. The successful applicant will join a dynamic and forward-thinking team of consultant surgeons and will share on-call duties 1 in 10 weekdays/weekends at CUH. A commitment to developing a dedicated and advanced abdominal wall service at Croydon is essential. The abdominal wall department also has recently enjoyed a good research output, and the successful candidate should be willing to continue this.
Closing date: 24th November 2024.
Applicants should either already be on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC) or within six months of eligibility to be included, and hold a license to practice. Please see the attached job description and person specification for more information.
