Blood Transfusion Team Support Officer
Department- Pathology Blood Transfusion
Band 3 - £22,- £24, per annum pro rata
Hours: 15 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Blood Transfusion Team Support Officer within the Blood Transfusion Pathology department at Milton Keynes University Hospital and invite applicants with a keen interest in Hospital Blood Transfusion, and a dedication to assisting the department in delivery a high-quality transfusion service.
The main aim of the role is to support the Blood Transfusion team and patient safety in respect of blood transfusion activity around the organisation by providing administrative, traceability and training support to the specialist transfusion practitioners.
To aid the transfusion team to ensure compliance with the relevant parts Blood Safety and Quality Regulations, storage and distribution components and vein to vein traceability by assisting the specialist blood transfusion practitioners, in monitoring blood and blood component usage and maintaining full audit traceability of units.
To support the blood transfusion team with managing blood transfusion related incidents that occur outside of the laboratory by aiding the specialist transfusion practitioners and laboratory manager.

Main duties of the job

To support the blood transfusion team in Hospital transfusion committee (HTC) and Hospital Transfusion Team (HTT) meetings by taking minutes.
To support the transfusion team by assisting in the management of training and competency of the Blood Track system and clinical blood transfusion training and competencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
·The post holder will need to communicate and collaborate with the specialist blood transfusion practitioners, blood transfusion laboratory staff and laboratory manager regarding safe blood transfusion practice.
·Communicating sensitively following transfusion related incidents, in a manner that will not offend or antagonise.
·To utilise problem solving skills to support identification and resolutions of blood transfusion related events, using trust RADAR and pathology QPULSE systems.
·Daily data entry of blood transfusion traceability tags and producing relevant blood component reports.
·Collecting the traceability tags from each ward daily and enter on to LIMS.
·Using the monthly traceability search list check for any missing tags by searching eCare patients notes and search for evidence of transfusion.
·To provide administrative support to the Transfusion Practitioner Team, effectively maintaining transfusion training schedules, arranging venues and resolve conflicting appointments.
·Minute taking at HTT and HTC meetings and other meetings as necessary.
