SEND Teaching Assistants
We are looking for compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). If you’re passionate about working with children and have a heart for helping those with complex needs, we would love to hear from you.
At Sense Education, we understand that every child is unique, and we are looking for someone who can bring their skills, creativity, and dedication to support students’ growth and development.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils with a variety of needs, including SEMH, ASD, Epilepsy, PMLD, ADHD, communication difficulties, and more. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in the delivery of individualised learning plans, helping students access their curriculum and develop life skills in a supportive and nurturing environment.
You will work alongside a talented and dedicated team of professionals, including occupational therapists and specialists in alternative methods of communication such as Makaton and AAC, as well as support pupils’ sensory needs with immersion rooms and rebound therapy.
In addition, depending on the needs of the students, there may be an element of personal care involved, so flexibility and a caring approach are essential. You will be instrumental in promoting student independence, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and able to achieve their full potential.
The Ideal Person
We are looking for individuals who have a genuine passion for working with children with SEND. Experience in supporting students with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, communication difficulties, and other SEND needs would be an advantage, though a willingness to learn and develop your skills is just as important.

* Care, Health and Social Care qualifications
* Teaching Assistant qualification
* Childcare qualifications
* Or any other relevant qualification in the SEND sector
Experience or knowledge of alternative methods of communication, such as Makaton or AAC, will be highly valued.
Most importantly, you should possess a kind, empathetic nature with a commitment to supporting students in their development.
The School
This role is based in a warm and welcoming school in Whitehaven, known for its supportive environment and dedication to the development of students with SEND. The school boasts a range of facilities, including sensory and immersion rooms, that help support the varied needs of its pupils. The team is made up of professionals who are passionate about ensuring every child thrives and develops their skills in an inclusive environment.
Hours
This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm. We are also open to applications for part-time candidates allowing flexibility to meet your availability.
