Job Purpose
We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Revenue Officer. This role is essential in helping to manage the recovery of debts owed to the Local Authority, including Council Tax and Business Rates arrears. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling a range of accounts in arrears, from initial stages of debt management to enforcement procedures, ensuring all actions are taken in accordance with relevant guidelines and legislation.
Each day in this role is different, with a mixture of managing accounts, dealing with debtor inquiries, and taking necessary enforcement actions. The successful candidate must be comfortable working with customers who are in financial difficulty, while ensuring that all debt recovery actions are conducted in a professional and legally compliant manner.
Main Responsibilities
1. Customer Interaction: Communicate directly with customers who are in arrears with their Council Tax and Business Rates, via telephone, email, and written correspondence.
2. Debt Management: Make arrangements to clear outstanding debts and chase missed payments.
3. Account Management: Handle accounts both before and after the granting of Liability Orders, ensuring the correct action is taken for each case.
4. Enforcement Actions: Deal with accounts managed by Enforcement Agents and take appropriate action, including progressing accounts to charging orders, bankruptcies, or any other actions allowed after a Liability Order.
5. Report Management: Regularly work through reports to identify and follow up on debt accounts for Council Tax and Business Rates.
6. Problem Resolution: Identify what action is required for each debt account and ensure cases are dealt with efficiently and effectively.
7. Documentation: Ensure all communications and actions taken are properly documented for each case.
Requirements for the Role
1. Experience with Northgate Systems: Essential for managing debt accounts and tracking progress.
2. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to listen, understand, and explain complex issues clearly to customers.
3. IRRV Qualification: Desirable, though not mandatory. Experience in a similar role will be considered.
4. Self-Sufficiency: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing a varied and dynamic workload.
5. Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure that the correct procedures are followed and all actions are documented accurately.
