(Candidates must be a resident in UK or Germany to be full time employed) Carbon13 builds and backs ventures addressing earth’s critical life support systems. Initially this means tackling the most urgent problem of our time – climate change. Carbon13’s programmes build proprietary deal flow, and between September 2021 and May 2024 we made 70 pre-seed investments in high-potential climate tech startups, each with a plan to mitigate 10 million tonnes CO2e per annum when at scale. The portfolio to date has an excellent record of raising follow-on investment. By end 2025, we expect to be making more than 40 pre-seed investments per annum across hubs in Cambridge, Berlin and beyond, and our rights include substantial preemption and follow-on opportunities. In addition to SEIS, we have a €30m LP Fund so that we can continue to invest in ventures in different territories and follow on those investments up to series A. We are recruiting an Investment Partner to develop Carbon13’s funds and fund infrastructure and become a core member of our team. Roles & responsibilities Direct • Alongside the other two partners, establish the structure and functional duties of the fund team. • Responsibility for portfolio company reporting which will involve capturing portfolio company performance data and KPIs monthly/quarterly, evaluating performance and also preparing short write ups for investor quarterly reports on each portfolio comp • Participate in the investment committee. • Contribute to closing of the LP Fund • Source LP fund leads. • Manage relationships with Fund LPs; • Manage portfolio relationships. • Manage the investment process after the pre-seed stage. • Hire and manage fund team members. • Take board observer seats where needed. • Contribute as needed on compliance activities, and a full FCA registration for Carbon13 Capital Ltd. • Work in partnership with others on carrying out DD and competitor research. • Regularly work with the Carbon13 Carbon team to assess the impact of the deals. • Participate in setting investment strategy. Requirements Essential • Can demonstrate experience years in Venture Capital - Seed and Series A; the role requires experience in early-stage, high-potential startups with potential for rapid growth – (candidates from Private Equity / hedge funds won’t be selected at this time) • Previously been in a role at a level of at least Senior Investment Associate or Investment Principal • Experience in whole VC investment process; portfolio relationships, compliance, strategy, competitor research, deal sourcing to deal making – helping teams raise follow on funding, due diligence. • Experience being on a startup board as a director or observer • Experience in investment portfolio construction • Knowledge of fund cash management planning • A genuine passion for finding solutions to climate change • An appreciation and understanding of DEI Desirable • Experience in hardware investments • Ideally solid investment career progression (from analyst – towards partner) • Experience in evaluating ESG / Impact ventures/funds The role is primarily remote, but candidates must have either a UK base (Cambridge or London) or a German base (Berlin) to be able to work from these offices.
