Main duties of the job
* To participate in the provision of specialised decontamination of flexible endoscopes contributing to the clinical care of our patients.
* To carry out receipt, disassembly, manual cleaning, reassembly and reprocessing of reusable flexible endoscopes.
* Work in accordance with the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Management Systems & JAG Standards.
* Plan your own workload with limited supervision.
* The role involves exposure to body fluids.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are looking for someone who would like to join our high performing, skilled and adaptable team, who provide a comprehensive service to Endoscopy Units, Operating Theatres, Wards across both the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary & Leigh sites.
This is a vital service that is a major link in the health care chain.
The technician will be expected to undergo all aspects of the training provided, which is geared to equip them with the technical knowledge, skills and understanding to carry out the wide range of tasks within the ERU, which requires a high degree of numeracy, record keeping ability and attention to detail.

* To work in accordance with ERU Policy, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System to meet JAG (external) accreditation.
* To reprocess reusable flexible endoscopes, manually wash, disinfect, reprocess, check, dispatch to user and track in a controlled environment.
* Under limited supervision by the Team Leader meet the demands of the Departments workload whilst consistently achieving high quality standards which will be measured by in-process checks.
* To operate decontamination equipment and carry out routine tests daily/weekly, in accordance with the Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedules, National Quality Standards and Guidance.
* To undertake duties consistent with the responsibility of the grade and needs of the service.
* The daily documentation of work production.
* To maintain the cleanliness of work areas sinks trolleys and other equipment, in line with the unit’s standard operating procedures.
Person specification
Qualifications
* GCSE level qualifications including English and Maths or demonstrate equivalent experience
Experience
* No previous experience required as full training will be provided.
* Healthcare/industry experience in health and safety and hygiene.
* Working within a Quality system and Standard Operating Procedures.
Skills
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Ability to communicate with colleagues and service users on both routine and complex matters.
* Ability to work accurately under pressure.
* A working knowledge of keyboard, typing and computer skills.
* Ability to absorb and retain knowledge.
* Basic IT Skills.
* Ability to work to Standard Operating Procedures.
* Basic English and Maths.
