Through continued growth, a multi-site SME business is seeking a skilled IT Engineer to join them and provide on-site technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for a wide range of IT systems and equipment across London, South East, and Midlands, although primarily at the Head Office in South Bucks. Working with the IT Manager, you will play a pivotal role in resolving technical issues, implementing solutions, and delivering exceptional service to our staff, ensuring their technology needs are met with professionalism and expertise. In detail, you will undertake:
1. IT site surveys (desktop) for connectivity, network coverage to ascertain equipment selection
2. Liaising with the project team to understand IT package requirements and optimized IT infrastructure layout specifications
3. Procurement and preparation of equipment, in conjunction with external provider
4. Confirmation of IT profiles (for onboarding setup) to external provider
5. Testing of equipment and software applications (during setups) Teams, Cloud Server etc.
6. Preparation of RAMS for the on-site installation
7. Arranging agreed installation dates with construction project teams and taking all necessary equipment to site
8. Supervising installation, including CAT 6 cabling, power cables & switches, setup of routers, Starlink, aerials (internal/external), MFPs, screens, PCs, microphones, cameras etc.
9. Operations staff training on installed equipment with regular visits throughout the duration of the project to train new users/troubleshoot common themes
10. Dismantling of IT equipment at the end of projects, reviewing equipment for maintenance/upgrades etc.
11. Responding to incidents/requests that are escalated from the helpdesk
12. Manage user change requests (new software, additional file access etc.)
13. Liaise with internal teams on updates of helpdesk tickets
14. Provide optimal availability of IT equipment and resources to all staff
15. Test and evaluate new technology and software
16. Issue/install software ensuring licensing and version control arrangements are complied with
17. Ensure IT work areas including communications cabinets, server rooms, patch panels, and storerooms are clean, tidy, safe, and secure and maintain accurate records of cabling for patch management
Suitable applicants will have a number of years of experience in a fast-paced environment with proven experience as an IT Engineer/Administrator. Proficiency and analytical skills in troubleshooting and resolving hardware/software issues and experience in configuring and managing network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls, and setting up and maintaining VPNs, LANs, and WANs is essential. Knowledge of cloud services and understanding cybersecurity principles and practices is always required.
