Morrison Energy Services is currently looking to recruit a Electrical Design Engineer to work within our Renewable Connections business for Clients across the UK.
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be part of our Renewable Connection Business who are responsible for the Design & Delivery of major renewable connection electrical works as one-off projects and within long-term framework agreements within the non-regulated sector.
The Renewable energy sector is a key area of growth for Morrison Energy Services. We are looking to build our existing team to take advantage of the extensive opportunities within the renewable energy sector that will result from not only “business as usual” work activities, but also additional works that will result from the journey to Net Zero.
Responsibilities
* Working with the wider project team to lead and develop cost-effective, efficient and innovative solutions to complex problems to create practical designs.
* Assess and evaluate any project risks and potential problems.
* Delivering projects in a variety of stages of maturity, including Feasibility Studies, Concept Designs, FEED Studies, Value Engineering and Detailed Design.
* Preparation and development of Electrical deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, cable calculations, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design, switchgear configurations philosophies and produce bill of materials/quantities for electrical systems.
* Working with equipment vendors on developing designs of equipment packages and participating in technical evaluations of vendor designs.
* Liaising with Project Management staff to provide design services in line with project programme requirements.
* Liaising with the Commissioning Manager to establish parameters for site testing requirements based on design specifications.
* Finalizing and signing off designs before delivery.
* Being the go-to technical and design expertise person for any support required in the development of projects.
* To prepare and review technical and non-technical reports.
* Assist in the technical and estimating element of preparation of tender and quotations from specification and drawings within defined time periods – In conjunction with the Procurement and civil estimating team, liaise with Sub-contractors and supplies to obtain the best available quotations.
* Evaluation and pricing of options and alternatives.
* Completion of all company procedure documents and financial information for governance prior to submission of tender.
* Produce formal handover documentation on accepted work. Attend handover meetings where required and understand project scope, estimate, clarifications and assumptions.
* Support completion of all company procedure documents and financial information.
* Work alongside other members of the team to ensure effective delivery of targets.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
* Degree/HNC in Electrical Engineering / C&G Qualification or equivalent.
* Extensive experience within the renewable energy sector and non-regulated sectors.
* Experienced Electrical Engineer with a proven track record in providing technical solutions for an electrical and civil engineering environment.
* Knowledge of 400kV, 275kV, 132kV, 66kV and 33kV High Voltage equipment and systems.
* Extensive knowledge of Battery Energy Storage systems, balance of plant and connections.
* Extensive knowledge of Solar PV installations, balance of plant and connections.
* Extensive knowledge of data centre electrical installations and connections.
* Understanding of National Grid and DNO Standards.
* Strong commercial acumen – knowledge of forms of contract.
* Organised with a high attention to detail.
* Understanding of the planning and sequencing of construction projects.
* IT Literate in MS Office software – word, excel etc.
* General knowledge of H&S in construction.
