A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a full-time Senior Residential Children's Practitioner at Marshfields based in West Lynn.
As an Ofsted registered Residential Children's Home, we provide short breaks for children with disabilities, autism and/or complex health needs aged 5 to 17 yrs.
Main Duties of the Job
As the Senior Practitioner, you will provide leadership support and supervision to the team with a specific emphasis on striving for excellence through quality and consistency of practice. Central to this role is the ability to mentor, model, and direct best practice to Children's Residential Practitioners to achieve the best possible outcomes for the children and young people.
The role requires one of the following qualifications: a Level 5 Leadership and Management or a Social Work, Nursing, or OT qualification.

The Senior Practitioner is required to sleep in and be part of the out-of-hours on-call rota, for which a payment is made.

Job Responsibilities
1. Promote good practice standards within the Residential Home and provide feedback to the Residential Team Manager and Assistant Residential Team Manager.
2. Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans in partnership with parents, carers, and professionals.
3. Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people worked with by Residential staff, in conjunction with the overall staff team.
4. Chair appropriate meetings as required.
5. Attend statutory reviews and planning meetings as required and act as an advisor on residential child care.
6. Take day-to-day responsibility for the Home in the absence of the Assistant Residential Team Manager.
7. Ensure staff seek and take into account the views and wishes of residents and ensure they are familiar with the Representation and Complaints procedure and are empowered to use it.
8. Participate in relevant County groups representing the Home or the Children with Disabilities service.
9. Keep abreast of changes in policy, practice, legislation, and research and report regularly on such matters to the Residential Team Manager and the Assistant Residential Team Manager.
10. Maintain and develop professional expertise and knowledge relevant to professional qualification.
11. Assist in the training of staff, ensuring compliance with National Minimum Standards and National Minimum Care standards to support learning, practice, and the care of young people.
12. Undertake induction and mentoring of staff and students, including supervision and preceptorship for those undertaking the Level 3 Children's Workforce Diploma.
13. Collaborate and develop links with colleagues within the Children's Services Departments and other agencies.
14. Undertake appraisal and supervision of relief bank workers, ancillary staff, students, and volunteers.
15. Ensure staff are familiar with the Representation and Complaints procedures for young people and are able to empower young people to use it.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma in Social Work, CQSW, CSS, or appropriate nursing qualifications.
* Additional training relevant to the post.
Experience
* Significant care experience (including at least one year post-qualification and specific experience of direct work with disabled children).
* Experience of evaluating, monitoring, and developing the quality of childcare practice.
Skills/Knowledge
* Being a role undertaking regulated activity with respect to children, the post holder must demonstrate suitability to work with this vulnerable group. This will include having a Disclosure and Barring Service check at an enhanced level and undergoing a Warner / safe care interview.
* Knowledge and understanding of the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation pertaining to disabled children.
* Knowledge of child protection procedures including Working Together.
* A commitment to, knowledge, and understanding of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.
* Knowledge and understanding of the Warner, Utting, and Aiming High for disabled children better support for families Reports.
* Knowledge and understanding of government policy in relation to residential childcare and services for disabled children.
* Competence in the use of information technology.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
