An exciting opportunity has arisen at Oaklands College for an A-level Biology Teacher based at our St Albans campus.

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative teacher to join our A-level team and play a crucial role in the delivery of A-level Biology. In this position, you will deliver A-level Biology lessons in line with the AQA syllabus, also working alongside our Practical Instructor to supervise laboratory experiments and ensure that students gain hands-on experience with biological techniques. In addition to this, you will be responsible for contributing to departmental development through participation in curriculum planning, internal verification of student work and professional development activities.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Biology or a related field, up-to-date knowledge of the subject and excellent communication and organisational skills. You should be proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
1. To teach A-level Biology in line with the AQA syllabus;
2. To plan and develop engaging, comprehensive lessons that cater to different learning styles and abilities;
3. To set and mark assignments, monitoring student progress and providing feedback to help students improve their performance and prepare them for the A-level exams;
4. To work alongside our Practical Instructor to supervise laboratory experiments and ensure that students gain hands-on experience with biological techniques;
5. To maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress and grades;
6. To write reports and communicate with parents about student progress;
7. To contribute to departmental development through participation in curriculum planning, internal verification of student work and professional development activities.
PERSON SPECIFICATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A degree in Biology or a related field;
2. Familiarity with current scientific research and advancements to keep lessons relevant and interesting;
3. Excellent organisational, planning and communication skills;
4. Skill in explaining difficult ideas in a way that is accessible to students;
5. A passion for teaching and a strong desire to make a positive impact on learners’ development;
6. Ability to deliver clear, engaging lessons.
