Geotechnical Engineer
Our client is a rapidly expanding geotechnical design consultancy, part of one of the UK’s leading specialist ground engineering contractors, offering a range of additional services.

Additionally, our client will review and offer complete engineering solutions for highly complex development sites and/or conditions. They embrace the higher risks associated with any type of geotechnical/ground development by working in partnership with all stakeholders at the very early phase of the process. Additional bespoke service offerings include (but are not limited to) holistic soil/ground testing and factual data reporting, ground/soil improvement and stabilization, remediation, earthworks, contaminated land assessment, and all associated enabling works.
Due to continued expansion and a recent award of lucrative contracts, our client wishes to appoint a Geotechnical Engineer to plan, prioritize, and manage site-based field testing and accompanying laboratory works. You will work on multiple schemes simultaneously in various sectors, with responsibilities comprising various geotechnical-based testing activities in the field, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting on the results, ultimately proposing the most appropriate choice of methodology for ground treatment or stabilization/improvement or selecting the correct foundation technique depending on ground or soil conditions. You will also work within a multi-skilled team, conducting technical reviews, interpretative report writing, liaising with clients and regulatory authorities, and ensuring compliance with health and safety guidelines. The role will be based within the Central Belt region of Scotland and offers work-from-home flexibility, with travel to sites as required. Right to work in the UK unassisted and a full UK driving license is required.
The Role
1. Supervision of site-based testing, including soil sampling, analyzing and reporting on the results, utilizing the company’s in-house laboratory if required.
2. Collect and organize data to produce a variety of reports for internal teams and clients.
3. Ensure safe, profitable, and timely delivery and management of all assigned responsibilities on numerous sites and projects.
4. Input to proposal writing, interpretative reporting, and factual report writing.
5. Develop and maintain professional relationships (internal and external) to maximize opportunities to successfully procure and profitably assist in project delivery.
6. Proactively and effectively manage accountabilities to ensure individual and team targets are achieved or exceeded.
7. Conduct site visits, assessments, and surveys, including client meetings to ascertain project specification requirements to optimize proposal success.
8. All technical works shall be carried out in accordance with the relevant standards, codes, guidelines, and quality procedures.
The Person
1. Applications are invited from individuals with at least 2-3 years practical work experience.
2. Ability to manage and deliver on accountabilities on time and within budget.
3. Expected to combine site work with office or lab-based technical duties.
4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to relate to all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
5. Familiarity with relevant technical industry requirements/regulations, either through studies or practical work experience.
6. Excellent numerical skills including data interpretation.
7. IT literacy with the use of Microsoft packages.
