An exciting Band 6 opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Senior Theatre Scrub Practitioner in the Alan Cummings Day Surgery Unit.
We are seeking an experienced, qualified professional, 1st level Registered General Nurse with NMC Pin with excellent leadership & scrub skills with up-to-date knowledge in Gynaecology, Vascular, General Surgery, General/Breast surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Dental, Orthopaedics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Pain, Cardioversion, Paediatrics and ENT - Ears, Nose and Throat. This role involves occasional wearing of led aprons and manual handling.
Alan Cummings Day Surgery Unit consists of 6 Theatres and a 30 bedded ward area, situated within the Princess Royal University Hospital premises in Farnborough.
Main duties of the job
* To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both perioperative patients and their relatives within the King's College Hospital.
* Work within the multi-disciplinary team to provide continuing care to a group of patients from admission to discharge in the department.
* To assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of practitioners within the Department.
* To act as a clinical resource within the Department and across the Care Group as necessary.
* To act as a positive role model to junior members of staff.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To deliver a high standard of evidence based care to a specified group of patients.
* To adhere to HCPC Standards of conduct, performance and ethics or the NMC Code of Professional conduct at all times. To maintain confidentiality at all times.
* To support patients, relatives, carers and friends and where appropriate involve them in the care of the patient.
* To be fully involved in the health education of patients and relatives, identifying each opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle.
* To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the relevant information regarding the patient's needs/condition are communicated to them (including handover), and that any instructions from them regarding the patient's care/condition are acted upon.
* To adhere to the Trust policy on valuing equality and diversity in the workplace, which incorporates the patients/visitors' and staff.
* To acknowledge personal limitations in your practice and seek advice from senior staff members.
* To rotate to other clinical areas within the department as required or as identified as a personal development need in the appraisal process.
* To be involved with department audit.
* To report adverse incidents which occur in the department as per policy and assist in the investigation of such incidents as necessary.
* To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Registered Nurse (RN1) with active NMC registration or HCPC registered.
* Anaesthetic Practice experience.
Desirable criteria
* Recovery Practice experience.
