The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre (TSEAC) is an award-winning performance arts venue that offers the opportunity to immerse in a diverse range of cultural experiences including live music performances, cinema, comedy, and cultural events whilst also working to develop the artistic talents of others through our range of workshops and thriving music school.
Steeped in Irish history, The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre’s unique and intimate performance space is regarded by many as ‘A hidden Gem’ in the Irish culture scene, offering the opportunity to fully experience every show in a way that maintains the historic culture and delivery of traditional folklore and storytelling, earning us the name ‘Ireland’s Biggest Little Arts Centre’.
A vibrant cultural hub of visual and performance art, education and more, The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre is a charity organisation funded by Fingal County Council and gratefully receives additional supports from the Arts Council of Ireland as well as donations from our members, friends, patrons, and visitors, which we use to continue to enrich people’s lives through art, culture, education, and creativity whilst commemorating the work and life of the late Séamus Ennis without whom, our stories would be lost.
About the Position:
The position is offered on a temporary contract to cover the current Director’s maternity leave. It is an essential requirement for the post that the post holder holds a full clean driving licence and has access to a car.
The Director of The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre will be accountable for the following:
1. Overall performance, management, and day-to-day running of The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre.
2. Lead on the delivery of the strategic plan for 2024-2028.
3. Manage the annual budget in the most effective and efficient manner.
4. Ensure the sustainability of The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre by securing funding and sponsorship for future events and activities.
5. Report to the Board on performance against the Strategic Plan, annual business plan, and budget.
6. Work with the Board, partners, and stakeholders on issues as and when they arise.
7. Leadership and management of the staff of The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre.
8. Meet development targets as agreed with the Board.
9. Lead and manage the key functions in the organisation.
10. Promote The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre amongst its partners, funders, and other relevant bodies.
The Director shall furthermore be responsible for:
1. Devising, developing, and implementing multi-disciplinary artistic programmes for the use of the Centre within the agreed budget, in liaison with the Programming Manager.
2. Ensuring that the property known as The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre is maintained in a fit condition within approved budgets and that a high standard of cleanliness and general repair is maintained.
3. Ensure proper insurance cover and licenses are all up to date.
4. Be informed and comply in a competent manner with all employment legislation and regulations.
5. Be informed and comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation to include public and employees and ensure appropriate insurances, etc.
6. Maintain high ticket sales and revenue streams and identify new/additional sources of funds including philanthropic opportunities.
7. Represent and promote The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre locally, nationally, and internationally (as agreed with or as proposed by the Board of Directors).
8. Seek out and develop appropriate short and long-term links with relevant Fingal and Greater Dublin organisations/individuals both locally and otherwise with a view to expanding the role and function of the Centre, to expand the audience and drive revenue.
9. Work collaboratively and effectively with other cultural organisations, including the Arts Council of Ireland.
10. To develop new and innovative/cost-effective marketing, promotional, and advertising strategies to encourage the fullest use of the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre in all its forms.
11. Continue to expand the audience database, drive ticket sales, and establish/perpetuate a working relationship between the audience members, the Director, and the employees.
The role of Director of The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre requires the following attributes and skills:
1. Strong understanding, insight, and experience of the traditional arts and folk music landscape at a strategic leadership level.
2. Strong leadership, people management, and motivational skills.
3. Excellent communication, interpersonal, influencing, and networking skills.
4. The ability to develop sustainable, mutually beneficial, and trusting relationships at senior level in key stakeholder organisations.
5. Strong commercial acumen and sound business judgement.
6. Ability to lead and manage people in diverse disciplines, both within the organisation and with other external organisations.
