The Dorset Breast Screening Unit (DBSU) as part of the University Hospital Dorset Trust screens approximately 43,000 women per year as part of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme. The Trust also provides symptomatic services based at Poole and the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital’s. The unit is fully digital with eight mammography units (three being mobile), four having tomosynthesis.
We are currently looking for a Clinical Specialist (Breast) and would welcome applications from experienced Clinical Specialists and practitioners working towards that level who have at least two elements of advanced practice. Where appropriate, training will be given for the right candidate to achieve Clinical Specialist status in Breast Imaging. Banding would be dependent upon training required and experience (Band 7 at trainee level, band 8a on qualification and completion of probation period where required).
Base Location: Poole Hospital and Bournemouth Hospital (cross site working)
Interview Date: TBC
The Clinical Specialist/trainee will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team and provide a specialist opinion for Breast Imaging. This will include film reading, ultrasound, and biopsy and ultimately they will be responsible for their own assessment and symptomatic breast clinics at both Poole and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals under supervision.
Consultant practice is already fully integrated into the service with four current Consultant radiographers in post. They provide expert professional advice to other professionals, multi-disciplinary groups and patients. The department is a forward thinking one which has always encouraged advanced practice. We currently have a team of advanced practitioners in various specialties who contribute to the development of the Breast Imaging Services in the Trust. We are actively involved in a wide range of research projects, both locally and nationally and have a partnership with a local University offering teaching on their Breast MSc pathway.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and service-focused individual, willing to work with a wide range of disciplines and professionals at all levels within the organisations. Full details of the role can be found in the job description and person specification documents, including an example job plan.

UHD are investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed and developed following merger and the New Hospital Programme.
This means that some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or long term. Recruiting Managers interviewing for this role will be happy to answer any specific questions that you have about this at interview.
