This OT Communications Network Manager will report to the Network Capability Manager and will work within the Technology, Strategy Regulation and Support Services directorate based in our Ipswich office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £60,564.00 and a bonus of 7.5%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job Purpose:
The OT Data Centre and Network Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of the UKPN on-prem OT network infrastructure inclusive of datacentre management and resilience. You will partner directly with our internal technical delivery teams and third party Communications Service Providers (CSP) to provide direction, technical assurance and ensure compliance with UKPN Policy, Process, Standards, and Strategy.
You will encourage and support collaborative working level relationships between UKPN and our third party CSP.
Principal Accountabilities
10. Run the daily relationship with our CSPs and internal teams to make the UKPN communication networks strategy a reality by translating our requirements into technical deliverables.
11. You will develop and implement network and datacentre operational procedures to support the UKPN communication network strategy.
12. Design repeatable network models to support our requirements for implementation by our own teams and our third party CSPs.
13. Keep all records and documentation of the UKPN on-prem network infrastructure and datacentre accurate and up to date.
14. Provide technical assurance of deliverables by our internal teams and third party CSPs ensuring they fully meet requirements, policy, and standards.
15. Manage all technical risk within the UKPN on-prem OT network infrastructure and datacentres, translating technical detail into potential business impact and escalating to seniors.
16. Arbitration between UKPN users and our internal technical teams / third party CSPs on all in-life changes / PEW to on-prem OT networks infrastructure to assess business impact and ensure clear unambiguous communications are provided to all impacted partners.
17. Be the technical SME for the on-prem OT networks infrastructure providing expert support to incidents, problems, and major incident management. As part of this role translate technical detail to business impact and provide advice to all partners.
18. Manage the capacity of our on-prem OT network infrastructure and datacentres ensuring visibility to senior partners of future problems early and overseeing any mitigation or business cases to increase capacity.
19. Support an inclusive and collaborative culture within the workplace and with our third party CSPs.
20. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
21. Enhance security protocols and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard information assets against potential threats.
Nature and Scope
You will report to the Communication Networks Capability Manager within the Technology Department, working with internal delivery teams and other trusted third party CSPs to ensure the on-prem OT network infrastructure is managed.
The team vision is "To operate the best utility owned communications network in the UK ensuring the Secure, Resilient and Reliable control of our electricity network whilst promoting new technology to support net zero for all".
You will be a practised leader who can demonstrate previous experience managing partners and who is committed to delivering high-performance network services and infrastructure that support and drive the business forward.
You will manage all aspects of Delivery and Service Operation of the UKPN on-prem OT network infrastructure through our internal delivery teams and trusted third party CSP. You will be responsible for on-prem network infrastructure spanning multiple sites throughout London, the East of England, and the South East underpinning the safe and resilient delivery of electricity to our customers.
Qualifications:
You will have experience managing Communication Networks and data centres and should hold a degree or equivalent industry qualifications/experience. Also, you will demonstrate the drive and experience in the following areas:
22. Technical Proficiency: Experience of IP network management. Experience of Extreme LAN switches and configuration. Experience of designing complex multi-vendor, multi-technology IP networks. TCP/IP and routing knowledge. Experience with Cisco Viptela SDWAN. Experience in LAN resilience Technologies (SPBM, HSRP/VRRP). Experience working with ITIL Framework. The ability to produce detailed network drawings using AutoCAD & Visio. Experience of datacentre management and planning.
23. Convey complex IT problems and systems to a non-technical audience.
24. You will have the capability to anticipate potential issues and proactively implement solutions.
25. Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of the regulatory environment impacting IT infrastructure, with an emphasis on compliance and cyber security.
