Systems Support Engineer - Apprentice (Level 3)
Illumina has an exciting opportunity to join our engineering team. Our program aims to teach you all the skills you will need to be successful at Illumina and beyond. From technical and engineering to soft skills and development. This is a three-year apprenticeship split between 80% professional work and 20% training. This is a great way to develop a qualification without incurring any costs to yourself, whilst also gaining valuable work experience with a business using genomics to improve human health around the world!
This role would be suitable for those just finishing their GCSEs or someone further in their career who would like to retrain in a fast-growing area.

About the Role:
Illumina’s Instrument Support Apprenticeship program aims to develop the Technicians and Engineers of the future. Apprentices play a significant role at Illumina, supporting and problem-solving complex issues that arise within the cutting-edge instrumentation and technologies which are at the forefront of the genomic research industry.
As an Instrument Support Apprentice, you will be required to maintain complex equipment and ensure that high standards are adhered to for safety, manufacturing quality, and documentation.
Responsibilities:
1. Service and maintain the in-house fleet of instruments
2. Standard instruments
3. Custom test hardware
4. Troubleshoot problems in the event of mechanical, electrical, and software issues of instruments and identify faulty parts which require replacement
5. Support Prototype builds and developments
6. Attend Training as a part of the apprenticeship program and for personal development.

Experience Requirements:
Experience is not required; however, the successful candidate should:
* Have an interest in working with hardware and software development and troubleshooting.
* Be a self-starter with a willingness to learn.
* Have an interest in broad scientific fields (instrumentation, optics, electronics, software, etc.)
* Be able to demonstrate a methodical approach to problem-solving and be hands-on.
* Be detail-oriented and highly motivated to be a part of a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team.
* Possess great communication skills.
* Have good teamwork skills.
* Exhibit high organization skills and confidence to work independently.
* Have concerns for standards.
* Possess high numeracy and literacy skills.
* Be computer literate.
* Interest, experience, and attitude in CAD design would be a significant advantage.

Education Requirements:
Typically, 3 GCSEs at grade C or higher, or equivalent in subjects including:
