We are now looking for one person to join our team as a Level 3 Science Manufacturing Apprentice.
The Package
- Starting salary: £20,000 per year (raising to National Living Wage after 12 months if aged 21+)
- Working hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm (whilst training). Once trained, you will work on a shift pattern of 6am - 2pm and 2pm-8pm. This will alternate on a weekly basis.

What will I be doing as a Manufacturing Technician Apprentice?
TAMS Packaging is pleased to be able to offer you the opportunity to both earn a salary and study towards a nationally recognised qualification through our Level 3 Science Manufacturing Apprenticeship.
We are seeking someone who is keen to learn and build a career as a Machine Operator in the printing and packaging industry. In this position, you’ll be given tonnes of in-house hands-on training, where you will trained to set-up, calibrate and monitor our printing press equipment. This will be with the aim to be able to run the equipment independently and master the art of machine calibration, keeping Health & Safety in mind at all times.
- You will be trained how to set up, calibrate and monitor a Heidelberg XL 106 Litho Printing Press, run the die-cutting machine independently and inspect parts to ensure quality standards are met.
- Troubleshoot issues with machinery and perform basic maintenance
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean working environment
- You’ll have the opportunity to dip your toes into other areas of the business, supporting other team members where necessary, on an ad hoc basis

Qualifications
It’s about enthusiasm, not school results. In our experience the most successful apprentices are those who are driven to find out more about the sector, can be up front about what they do and don’t already know, are considerate, self-reflective, and impatient to learn the job role!
Experience
Whilst previous experience is great, we’re not just interested in experience and qualifications; we’re looking for someone with the right attitude and aptitude to fit right in at TAMS Packaging.
About you
This is a very hands on and practical role so you should be willing to get stuck in and not be afraid to get your hands dirty.
We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented with a passion for machinery. Although you’ll be focusing on learning and maintaining the die-cutting machinery, you’ll have the opportunity to support other team members across the business so you’ll need to love some variety and have a good teamworking approach! You’ll be passionate about learning technical skills, and be able to think on your feet and multi-task which is crucial due to environment and nature of the role!
You will have good health and safety awareness and be able to work towards strict health and safety guidelines.
To succeed in this apprenticeship, you’ll need bags of enthusiasm, be a fantastic collaborator and be hungry to learn!
Please note, some heavy lifting and manual labour will be required in this position.

So how does the apprenticeship work?
Over 24 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on ‘off the job’ training. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments. Together this will count towards a Level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at TAMS Packaging who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career.
