Are you an experienced business professional, with a background in retail/commercial/business management, who is looking for a varied, challenging, and pivotal senior management role within a charitable organisation?
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Manager to drive the success and oversee and enhance our operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership abilities, manage teams effectively, and ensure that all business functions align with our strategic objectives.
Who are we?
Emmaus Gloucestershire supports people to work their way out of homelessness. As a not-for-profit charity, the revenue that we generate through our charity shops provides up to 26 companions with meaningful work experience in our social enterprise, training, support, and a stable home for as long as they need it. It enables them to restore feelings of self-worth and that actions make a real difference to their own lives, and the lives of others. Further information on our charity can be found at Emmaus Gloucestershire.
Role Purpose
The Business Manager works in support of the Operations Manager enabling the Emmaus Gloucestershire community and social enterprise, in the context of its agreed ethos, values and mission, policies and procedures. Collectively they ensure the delivery of strategic and operation plans agreed by Trustees; ensuring the safety and wellbeing of companions, volunteers, and staff; promoting Emmaus Gloucestershire internally and externally; and partners with other Emmaus communities and organisations to further the growth, reputation, and development of the organisation.
As the Business Manager you will strive to increase earned income from our existing retail outlets, develop new businesses/services in keeping with the strategic and operational plans, and develop and implement waste management schemes that maximise profit whilst minimising landfill and fuel use.
You will line manage the Shop Managers, Property Maintenance Officer, Driver, and Ecommerce Coordinator to ensure an efficient and effective human resource function is in place at all times with qualified expert input, advice, and oversight underpinning the work of Emmaus Gloucestershire. You will lead and manage employees, volunteers, and companions to maximise their contribution to the effective running of operations and take the lead on appropriate investigations and actions resulting from breach of rules by companions and line managed staff.
As part of the Senior Management team, the Business Manager must be committed to work flexibly in response to changing organisational requirements, fulfil on-call responsibilities, whether in person or via telephone, and is expected to cover in the absence of the Operations Manager.
