About the Role
Ocean to Earth Recruitment is delighted to partner with a leading ecological consultancy looking to expand its team with experienced Senior and Principal Ecologists. This is a fantastic opportunity for passionate ecologists to play a key role in delivering high-quality ecological services across Scotland.
The Opportunity
As a Senior or Principal Ecologist, you'll take the lead on diverse ecological projects, overseeing surveys, reporting, and stakeholder engagement. You'll mentor junior team members while collaborating with senior management to ensure successful project delivery. This role offers a dynamic mix of fieldwork and remote-based reporting, providing flexibility while working on impactful projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leading and conducting ecological surveys, including habitat assessments and protected species surveys (Great Crested Newts, bats, badgers, dormice, reptiles, etc.).
2. Carrying out botanical surveys using UKHab and NVC methodologies.
3. Producing high-quality reports such as Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and shadow Habitats Regulations Assessments (sHRA).
4. Providing expert ecological advice to clients, stakeholders, and statutory consultees.
5. Managing projects efficiently, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
6. Undertaking biodiversity net gain assessments using DEFRA metrics.
7. Utilizing GIS software (e.g., QGIS) for data analysis and mapping.
8. Mentoring and supporting junior ecologists in their professional growth.
About You
1. Strong background in ecological consultancy with experience leading surveys and assessments.
2. Proficiency in habitat and protected species surveys.
3. Excellent analytical, report writing, and communication skills.
4. A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
5. Holding or working towards protected species licences is a plus.
6. Experience in project management and client/stakeholder liaison.
7. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
