Around the world, SYSTRA’s specialists plan, design, integrate, test, commission, project manage and deliver mass transit and mobility solutions that are relied on by more than 50 million people every day. For more than 60 years, the Group has been committed to helping cities and regions contribute to their development by creating, improving and modernising their transport infrastructure with sustainability, accessibility and innovation at the heart of our designs. With over 10,300 colleagues globally and around 1000 in the UK & Ireland we are growing significantly and seeking out the very best talent to join the SYSTRA signature team and be part of leading the way in infrastructure design. We are expanding our Water teams in the UK, we have a strong forward workload delivering high profile infrastructure projects. We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our UK Water Resources team across our UK offices, by recruiting an experienced Senior Hydraulic Modeller, predominantly working on Rainwater Management and SuDS projects with the aim of reducing flood risk and enhancing watercourse quality. With ambitious growth plans, this is an exciting time to join SYSTRA Ltd as we continue to develop and raise our profile in the UK. Your role will involve leading hydraulic modelling activities, including performing hydraulic modelling, flood risk assessment, and the evaluation of nature-based solutions such as permeable surfaces, swales, and retention catchments. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate sustainable solutions that help reduce the impact of urbanisation on natural water cycles and contribute to the region's long-term climate resilience. You will play a key role in developing innovative and resilient nature-based solutions, such as Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), green infrastructure, and wetlands, that address urban drainage challenges and contribute to flood risk reduction. The individual selected for this exciting role will also be responsible for the management of a small team of junior engineers. Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Senior Hydraulic Modeller Engineer will be involved in a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to: Hydraulic Modelling : Lead the design, development, calibration, and validation of hydraulic models (e.g., InfoWorks ICM, HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller, TuFlow, etc). Simulate rainfall-runoff processes, urban drainage systems, and flood scenarios to inform project designs. Nature-Based Solutions Design : Undertake design of rainwater management engineering solutions and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). Develop and evaluate the hydraulic performance of SuDS, wetlands, and other green infrastructure. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate nature-based approaches into water management projects. Flood Risk Assessment : Collaborate with the tea to elaborate detailed flood risk analyses and propose mitigation strategies. Incorporate climate change projections into modelling to ensure long-term resilience. Data Analysis and Reporting : Prepare detailed technical reports and visualizations to communicate findings to internal teams, clients, and stakeholders. Effectively manage and respond to project-related correspondence and client queries. Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborate with water companies, regulators (e.g., Environment Agency), and local authorities to align modelling outputs with project goals. Engage with community and environmental groups to integrate local insights into project solutions. Technical Expertise : Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Water/Rivers related field such as Geography/Civil Engineering, or HNC/HND in Rivers Related Field such as Geography with significant experience in Water Catchment Management. Extensive experience in hydraulic modelling for urban and/or rural water management projects. Proficiency in modelling tools such as InfoWorks ICM, Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, and TuFlow. Strong knowledge of principles of Rainwater Management, SuDS design, flood risk management, and nature-based solutions. Have a working knowledge of designing attenuating rain gardens, constructed wetlands, ponds, swales etc. Professional Memberships Commitment to gaining Chartered Water Manager, Chartered Environmentalist, status if not already achieved. Analytical Skills : Expertise in scenario testing, sensitivity analysis, and optimization techniques. Experience with GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial analysis. Knowledge Areas : Understanding of UK water industry regulations. Familiarity with climate adaptation strategies in water management. Interpersonal Skills : Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. Ability to mentor junior team members and contribute to team development.
