We are a small, independent school specializing in the support and education of young adults with learning disabilities including autism, ADHD, and behavioral issues. We are currently expanding and require a dynamic, proactive, and flexible teacher to join our team. You will be supporting learners at our main school location near central London. You will be responsible for supporting the learners' educational needs whether academic or functional according to their individual support plan. This role will additionally involve the support of the physical education of the learners and helping them to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Responsibilities:
1. Teach small groups of pupils within, or outside the class
2. Prepare and deliver lessons and resources either in the classroom or at a learner's home
3. Prepare and deliver physical education classes for the learners
4. Support other staff members to deliver high-quality education consistently
5. Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of learners
6. Collaborate with teaching assistants to define appropriate physical and classroom activities for the learners in relation to the curriculum
7. Assess young adults who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual pupils' special needs
8. Work with the Academic Manager and other senior members of the school to ensure that the requirements of the Equality Act (2010) are met in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements
9. Liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists
10. Work closely with parents and guardians to ensure the best care for their child
11. Organise learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, school outings, or sporting events
12. Occasionally assist in severely disabled pupils' personal care/medical needs
13. Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils' progress, observations, and end of term reports
14. Attend statutory annual reviews or other related meetings, such as reviewing Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans
15. Manage behaviour of learners.
Mandatory Requirements:
* Experience in working with challenging behaviour students
* QTS / PGCE qualification or equivalent
* Up to date enhanced DBS
Desirable:
* Experience in Makaton Sign Language
* Familiarity with the needs of autistic learners
* Familiarity with TEACCH or other recognised teaching methods for autism
* Flexibility and positive attitude
