Applications are invited for a (10PA) Consultant in Palliative Medicine to commence from July 2025.
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit an energetic and enthusiastic Consultant to its Palliative Care department, based at Addenbrookes Hospital.
We are looking for a dynamic and innovative colleague who can lead on growing links with site-specific oncology teams and enhance our Enhanced Supportive Care services. An interest in quality improvement and service development is essential, and past experience of service development is desirable.
The successful candidate will join a team of six substantive Consultants (currently 3.4 WTE) led by Specialty Lead, Dr. Ben Clark.
Main Duties of the Job
You will be fully registered with the GMC and have a CCT in Palliative Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
As part of our commitment to supporting the medical workforce, all newly appointed Consultants attend our five-day Consultant Development programme within a year of joining the Trust. This innovative programme is designed to support Consultants in honing the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.
About Us
The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Job Responsibilities
Addenbrookes Hospital is one of the largest and best-known acute hospitals in the country, serving as both the local hospital for our community and a leading regional and national centre for specialist treatment, research, and teaching.
The Addenbrookes palliative care team is fully multi-professional, providing face-to-face cover seven days a week, 09:00-17:00 for patients attending and admitted to Addenbrookes hospital. The department comprises Consultants and Residents, band 6 Specialist Support Nurses, band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and excellent administrative support.
In the last three years, we have been working hard to increase the visibility and presence of our team across the hospital, with an 18% increase in referrals. We have established links with inpatient Oncology, Haematology, feeding issues MDT, Hepatology, Vascular Surgery, Neurology, Respiratory wards, and Renal Medicine, and our team is recognised to be a helpful and responsive service.
The department also delivers outpatient and community services, including outpatient Enhanced Supportive Care Clinics for Oncology and Hepatology patients, and the internationally renowned Breathlessness Intervention Service (BIS) that is mainly community-based.
The Consultant team has undergone significant changes in the last three years, creating opportunities for more engagement with teaching, audit, quality improvement, and research. We are also keen to develop technology-based innovations to enhance palliative care delivery in the hospital.
The Consultant team has close links with other palliative care teams locally, particularly with the Arthur Rank Hospice, with whom we share Consultant on-call cover for the hospital and hospice services.

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 per annum, pro-rata.
