The Trainee Building Services Manager will assist the Building Services Manager in managing design, delivery and commissioning of Building services in a construction environment.
The Trainee Building Services Manager should assist the Building Services Manager in taking pro-active steps, prior to works commencing, to ensure technical and statutory compliance within the Building Services requirements and interfaces with all construction elements, fabrics, fixtures and fittings in their entirety.
Such pro-active steps may include, for example, reviewing drawings and specifications with Design Managers, subcontractors and project managers prior to works starting to ensure that all parties fully understand project requirements and thereby minimising the likelihood of non-compliant works arising.
During the development period, the Trainee Building Services Manager will assist the Building Services Managers (BSM’s) and carry out the following duties:
* Assist the BSM’s to ensure all Building services needs are met, reflected in the building and fabric with information delivered in good time.
* Assist BSM’s to manage the Design, Drawings and approvals process in line with the programme.
* Assist BSM’s to support Planning teams in making sure building services are fully integrated into the delivery programme and execution plans.
* Assist BSM’s to support Site management and Health and Safety teams with the review of method statements and safe systems of work.
* Assist BSM’s to monitor progress against targets and assist the project management team with ensuring specialist contractors resource and approach the project as needed.
* Attend client progress meetings where appropriate.
* Assist with all document control relating to drawings and specifications, including maintaining up-to-date registers, and ensuring that such documents are timeously issued to all persons, parties and subcontractors, liaising with the Document Control team.
* Support the line manager in monitoring quality specification compliance is achieved first time.
* Build Health & Safety awareness to eliminate health and safety risks in the design and financial risks during construction.
What will I study?
You will be enrolled in a BEng (Hons) Building Services Degree Apprenticeship at the University of the West of England (1 day a week) in Bristol.

You’ll spend one day a week attending university studying towards your degree. It’s not all about study and exams though. When you’re not in University you’ll be putting into practice what you’ve learned by working with experienced colleagues on a range of high-profile projects.
You will get responsibility from an early stage in your career and will play a key role in helping deliver projects on time and under budget. You will also have opportunities to work on our high-profile projects.

A Trainee Building Services Manager will become technically qualified and experienced to include the following core systems:
* Gas, Power, Domestic and Waste water.
* Heating, ventilation and Air conditioning.
* Power, Lighting and earthing systems.
* Passive and active Data systems and AV.
* Fire, CCTV and Security Systems, Lifts and escalators (vertical transportation).
* Building Energy and Management Systems.
* Building Services Systems and Interface Software.
* Sustainability (Energy/Carbon).
What are the entry requirements?
GCSE: Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics, or equivalent (can include Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths).
A minimum of two A-levels including a Grade C or above in Mathematics plus a pass in one of the following subjects: Biology; Chemistry; Computing/Computer Science; Design and Technology; Electronics; Engineering; ICT; Further Mathematics; Music Technology; Physics; Statistics.
The Mathematics requirement can also be met by the Cambridge Pre-U Mathematics at Merit 3.
