We have a vacancy for a full-time Band 6 Safeguarding Nurse, working Monday to Friday currently.
We are seeking a qualified nurse with a recent record of nursing experience and some experience relevant to safeguarding, wishing to further develop and improve patient care and support.
The post holder will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the issues relating to vulnerable adults, children, young people, and families. Be a visible role model, providing clinical support and practical guidance to wards and departments across the Trust under the supervision of the Senior Named Nurse, Named Nurse for Safeguarding, and the Safeguarding Lead Nurse in line with both national and local guidance and statutory requirements.
The post holder will be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures, Children's Act (2004), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2024), the Mental Capacity Act (MCA, 2005), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), and Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) when implemented, Domestic Abuse Act (2021), Care Act (2014), and the NHS Sexual Safety Charter.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will support the Senior Named Nurse and Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children, young people, and Adults, to monitor and improve standards of care by providing family-wide safeguarding advice and support to front-line staff. Working with agencies to help support them.
You are required to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to manage a caseload of patients effectively and proactively.
The post holder will assist in the facilitation of safeguarding training for practitioners across the Trust.
The post holder will actively contribute to the governance processes within the safeguarding service.
The post holder will be required to work alongside external agencies/partners to minimize risks for vulnerable adults, children, young people, and families.
The post holder will have a record of continuing professional development. You will be required to show commitment to safeguarding, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively challenge senior staff and staff from other agencies.
Demonstrate enhanced communication skills when dealing with difficult or challenging situations.
Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, carers, significant others, and wider Multi-Disciplinary Teams and Multi-Agency Teams.
Job Responsibilities
* Work with clinicians in the Trust to promote Safeguarding and to identify relevant cases.
* Independently assess, implement, and evaluate patients with complex safeguarding needs, be able to complete DoLs processes, Early Help assessments, MARAC, and other multi-agency referrals.
* Act as a resource and provide support to wards and clinical areas on Safeguarding patients by:
o Ensuring adherence to Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines
o Maintaining accurate and confidential records
o Offering expertise and advice to multidisciplinary team members
o Working within local and national requirements for Safeguarding
* Under the direction of the Safeguarding Lead and Senior Named Nurse/Named Nurse, the post holder will undertake:
o Regular audits of practice
o The development of action plans to address any issues identified
o The promotion of education programmes to address issues
o The evaluation of the effectiveness of action plans and education delivered
* The post holder will document and communicate clear safeguarding management plans to the clinical teams concerned with individual patient care.
* Plan and organise own workload and activities, some of which may be complex.
* Set up, review, and adjust care plans and organise multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences, negotiating with other professionals and stakeholders as appropriate.
* Attend Safeguarding meetings within the Trust and those organized by other organisations as requested/delegated to attend.
* To ensure a consistent and timely response to safeguarding cases in line with departmental procedures, including completion of Mental Capacity Assessments, Best Interest Decisions, DoLs, and LPS when implemented requests for application as required.
* Assist in data collection as appropriate, including review and management update on incidents reported and internal notifications.
* Contribute actively to safeguarding supervision across the Trust.
* Work closely with Social Services personnel to review Safeguarding referrals.
* Assist the Safeguarding team in the continued progression and development of the Trust-Wide Safeguarding service, this includes safeguarding care plans and embedding Trust Safeguarding Strategy.
* To contribute and support the serious case review process for both adults and children and the implementation of recommendations and lessons learned.
* To support the Senior Named Nurse, Named Nurse, and Lead Safeguarding Nurse in the effective and timely management of complaints and serious untoward incidents as well as information requests.
* Develop constructive relationships by attending and contributing specialist knowledge to case conferences/clinical meetings and discharge planning meetings as appropriate, and to make referrals direct to social services/other agencies as required.
* Work closely with the Trust's Vulnerability Team members as part of the Safeguarding Team.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Current valid NMC registration Registered Nurse
* Diploma/degree level nursing qualification
* Evidence of Continued Professional Development within the last 12 months.
* Completion of Level 3 Safeguarding Training
* Recent Safeguarding external training
* Recognised teaching qualification
Experience
* Substantial/Significant experience as a Band 5 staff nurse, to include experience in an acute hospital setting
* Experience of formal safeguarding processes in the workplace
* Working knowledge of clinical and safeguarding practices.
* Experience at senior staff nurse level
* Clinical supervision experience
* Experience in audit or policy/procedure development and implementation
* Experience in developing, implementing, and delivering training programmes
Skills and Knowledge
* Demonstrate a knowledge of duties required for the post
* Understanding of the National agenda for safeguarding vulnerable individuals
* Knowledge of Safeguarding legislation, policy, and practice.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication as required for children and families under stress
