This Post is for a Consultant Psychiatrist responsible for providing clinical input and leadership to Liaison Psychiatry for Working Age Adults based at the East Surrey Hospital and working alongside a multidisciplinary team in line with New Ways of Working.
East Surrey Hospital in Redhill is part of the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. This large and successful hospital has approximately 700 beds, serving West Sussex and East Surrey. The Trust has been rated Outstanding in the January 2019 report of the recent CQC inspection. The area served by the Trust is an enjoyable place to live and work. The Liaison services for ESH are provided to those aged 16 years to end of life in Mole Valley, Tandridge, Reigate and Banstead and serve the local population of approx. 503,000.

Main duties of the job
The Consultant will be expected to support the existing staff in assessing, diagnosing and managing referrals for working-age adults presenting with mental health problems in East Surrey Hospital and to provide medical expertise and support to East Surrey Hospital staff involved in looking after patients with functional and organic mental health problems presenting in the acute hospital.
In addition, the Consultant will supervise the clinical caseload of the team members and the work of any trainee doctors who may be attached to the service. The role will also support the existing liaison team in deciding the most appropriate intervention for patients referred to the service. This will include facilitating discharge planning and timely communication with Primary Care, CMHRSs or Inpatient Services.
The clinical work will involve the assessment and psychiatric treatment of patients directly or through the supervision of other team members.
This job attracts a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000 in addition to £8000 relocation allowance. The Recruitment and Retention payment is pro rata for part time employees. Person Specification
Qualifications
* Consultant with licence to practice in good standing with the GMC
* Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent
* MB BS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
* Relevant higher degree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
* MRCPsych or equivalent
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
* Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice.
* Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
* Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
* Make decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others
* Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
* Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and Specialty teams.
* Knowledge of psychiatric provision
* Published audit or research projects
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
* Participated in research or service evaluation
* Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
