Main duties of the job
The clinical nurse specialist will be a core member of the multi-disciplinary team in providing optimum quality care to breast care patients within the hospital, providing both indirect and direct clinical care. The post holder will provide specialist nursing advice, care, and support to patients with breast cancer and benign breast conditions, and will have the knowledge and skills to work autonomously in managing their caseload. The post holder will require leadership and management skills to ensure the breast care unit is run effectively and efficiently.
Job responsibilities
* Provision of specialist, high-quality, expert nursing care and support for patients and their carers with a diagnosis of breast cancer, being assessed, coordinated or cared for in liaison with the multi-disciplinary team.
* Creates and utilizes opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients.
* To perform an effective key role within the multi-disciplinary team to deliver cancer waiting time targets and pathway communication.
* Responsible for effective management of departmental budget, procurement and maintenance of physical assets and supplies, dealing with complaints and clinical incidents.
* Provide leadership and effective management to staff employed within the service.
Person Specification
Experience and Knowledge
* Relevant recent experience in oncology/palliative care or breast care nursing
* Multi-professional working
* Analytical and assessment skills.
* Demonstrates expertise in the management of breast care services.
* Management of a team.
* Proven interest in working within a Breast Care Clinical setting
* 3 years post registration
Qualification and Professional Training
* Registered Nurse with NMC registration
* Recognized breast Care qualification
* Degree or working towards a degree qualification.
* Evidence of continual professional development.
Skills and Abilities
* Provide specialist advice to patients/clients, carers, relatives in relation to conditions
* IT and word processing skills
* Able to manage work autonomously
* Knowledge of professional and NHS issues, and policy relating to specialist area.
* Able to present information to professional groups.
* Able to perform assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
* Able to participate/undertake clinical audit & research

* Ability to perform in stressful and complex situations
* Sound clinical reasoning & decision making
