The post is based in the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Rheumatology department. The Rheumatology department covers all 3 sites including Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield hospital, as well as multiple community clinics. Our department has a multidisciplinary approach to the management of rheumatic diseases and is renowned for delivering high quality patient care. We work closely and collaboratively with other specialties such as Renal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology and Radiology. This is a locum (parental leave cover) full-time post for 12 months. The post is suitable for newly qualified consultants or more experienced ones, and it is an exciting opportunity to join a Rheumatology department recognised for its exceptional care and multidisciplinary approach.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will deliver a broad range of Rheumatology services including outpatient general rheumatology clinics, outpatient specialist clinics, inpatient Rheumatology reviews on a ward round rota and participation in multidisciplinary team meetings. The department provides training for specialist trainees and has a history of collaborating in translational and bench research through close working relationships with the University of Leicester and NIHR. The successful candidate will work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, financial management and operational efficiency. They will be supported to maintain up-to-date portfolios for annual appraisal, CPD and revalidation.
Job responsibilities
This is a locum full-time post based at Leicester Royal Infirmary. It has clinical commitments at Leicester General Hospital, Leicester Royal Infirmary and the Rutland Memorial Hospital in Oakham, Rutland. The role entails:
1. 4 General Rheumatology outpatient clinics per week
2. 1 Rheumatology injection procedure session clinic per week
3. Ward round (as per rota) and Rheumatology on-call (as per rota)
4. Weekly educational meetings
5. Support the nurse and doctors in training team in dealing with clinical queries
6. Contribute to additional NHS responsibilities by taking roles such as clinical manager, clinical governance lead or clinical audit lead
7. Maintaining up-to-date portfolios for annual appraisal, CPD and revalidation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS, MRCP or equivalent.
* Membership of relevant specialist societies or associations
Experience
* Fully trained in Rheumatology
* Clinical Knowledge and Expertise: Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems; demonstrates clear, logical thinking/analytical approach; understands evidence based practice
* IT Skills
* Evidence of clinical research and/or relevant specialty interest.
Management
* Able to work in MDTs and supervise Juniors
* Knowledge of clinical governance issues
* Capacity to manage/prioritise time and information effectively
* Awareness of service development issues
