About the role As a VAT Manager at Sumer NI, you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert VAT technical support to our local partners and clients. You’ll not only ensure compliance but also drive growth through business development, networking, and cultivating strong relationships with other professionals. This is a client-facing role with opportunities to advise a diverse range of sectors, offering scope for both strategic VAT planning and hands-on compliance work. Key Responsibilities: · Advising UK and international clients on VAT and other indirect tax matters. · Contributing to business development activities and becoming an integral member of the Tax team · Advising charities and other not for profit clients on VAT liability, VAT recovery, business / non-business and partial exemption. · Advising on property transactions and providing ad hoc advisory support to clients. · Carrying out VAT Due Diligence assignments for a wide range of high-value transactions. · Undertaking health checks and VAT reviews. · Managing and overseeing VAT compliance undertaken by the business, reviewing VAT returns due for submission on behalf of clients. · Communicating key VAT developments internally and externally. · Managing client relationships and expectations. · Mentoring and supervising junior team members, offering training, reviewing their work, and guiding their professional development. Requirements What We're Looking For (Skills and Attributes for Success) ACA/ACCA/CTA qualification, part-qualified, or equivalent experience. · Significant VAT experience, ideally with QBE or AAT qualification. · Strong technical expertise in VAT, with a proven ability to manage complex VAT issues across various sectors. · Demonstrated experience managing a diverse portfolio of VAT clients. · Effective staff management experience, with a commitment to nurturing talent within your team. · Excellent rapport building skills to gain credibility internally and externally with clients and across a professional network. · Organisational skills that allow you to present detailed information clearly and effectively to a range of audiences. Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively, using your analytical skills to provide practical, risk-based recommendations.
