The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association focuses on funding research, improving access to care and campaigning for people living with or affected by MND in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We have over 12,000 members forming a powerful network providing information and support for people with MND, their families and carers. We fund and promote research that leads to new understanding and treatments, and brings us closer to a cure. We campaign and raise awareness so the needs of people with MND are recognised and addressed by wider society.
Having grown rapidly in recent years, the MND Association is looking for its next Director of Research and Innovation to build on its success and profile to date, extending our reach, and driving transformative impact on the lives of those affected by MND.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, and as a key member of our Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Research and Innovation will be responsible for creating and implementing our refreshed research strategy, in collaboration with our Chief Scientist. The position will oversee a research portfolio of over £20m, leading a programme of innovative research activity, effectively deploying existing funds to cutting edge research in the field, and fostering collaborations with the broader MND community including leading industry partners and research institutions.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced senior research professional, with an extensive background in scientific research. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of the UK’s research ecosystem and policy environment, and the opportunities to drive impact in our search for a cure against MND. You will bring a strategic perspective, excellent networking skills, and a deep commitment to patient-centred research. Your expertise will ensure the highest standards of research integrity and effectiveness, driving innovation and excellence.
In this role, you will also work closely with our fundraising and engagement teams to support income growth and increase public awareness of our research efforts. Your ability to communicate complex scientific ideas simply and compellingly will help us tell powerful stories about the impact of our work.
Join us in our mission to create a world free from MND.
