Job overview
Each critical care unit must submit detailed patient level information into the Critical Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC) database on a monthly basis. The data is used to improve the care that we provide to our critically ill patients.
The post holder will work in the ICNARC and Audit administration team within the critical care unit. The role involves reviewing patient level information, collating data and submission into the national database.
The post holder will be a key member of the critical care team, working closely with the nursing and medical teams.
Main duties of the job
* Provide accurate information to enable effective critical care services to be maintained.
* Provide the day to day secretarial organisational responsibilities of the Directorate.
* Organise, maintain and track patient records as required.
* Ensure all patient information systems are accurate.
* Assist in the provision of maintaining stationary stock levels.
* Ensure accurate data entry, and assist in the presentation of findings as required.
* Support in the developing strategies and action plans for audit activity, ensure completion of planning and reporting requirements within the specified timetable.
* Work collaboratively with other health care professionals to ensure that accurate and relevant information is delivered.
* Assist in developing, organising and maintaining the filing systems.
* Contribute to the development of services.
* Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
* Maintain health, safety and security and report any concern.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Assist in the provision of a full secretarial and support service within Critical Care.
* Assist in the research, collation, analyses and preparation of data from a variety of information sources for clinical audit and generally contribute to the implementation and development of clinical audit.

* Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of service.
Person specification
Qualifications
* RSA 2/equivalent
Experience
* Wide range of clerical activities within the healthcare setting.
* Clinical audit and shorthand.
Knowledge
* Range of knowledge using Microsoft Windows, word processing and database products.
* Understanding of quality and change in the clinical setting.
* An understanding of organisation of care and service delivery.
Skills
* Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients/relatives of varying levels of understanding.
* Able to present factual information and refer questions to others where appropriate.
* Able to maintain accurate patient information systems.
* Able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
* Able to develop skills to organise and prioritise own workload.
* Intermediate IT skills in word processing and email.
* Intermediate understanding of NHS issues.
