Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Secondary School Teacher / Cover Supervisor of Music to join our dynamic and thriving music department. The ideal candidate will have experience in supporting GCSE-level music students, ensuring they achieve their full potential. This role is perfect for an enthusiastic individual who is committed to fostering a love for music and supporting students’ academic and practical progress.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver high-quality music lessons to students across Key Stages 3 and 4, following the national curriculum.
2. Provide GCSE-level music support, including composition, performance, and theoretical components.
3. Supervise and manage classroom activities, ensuring a productive and engaging learning environment.
4. Deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of the main teacher, ensuring continuity in students' learning.
5. Offer targeted intervention and support for GCSE music students preparing for exams and coursework.
6. Assist in the planning and delivery of school concerts, performances, and extracurricular music activities.
7. Support and guide students in the use of music technology, including DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) and notation software.
8. Encourage student participation in ensemble and solo performances.
9. Maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom management.
10. Work collaboratively with the music department to enhance the curriculum and teaching methods.
Person Specification:
Essential Criteria:
1. Experience working with secondary school students, ideally within a music department.
2. Knowledge of GCSE music syllabus and requirements.
3. Ability to support students in composition, performance, and listening skills.
4. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage students.
5. Passionate about music education and student success.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to adapt and deliver lessons effectively in a cover supervisor capacity.
8. Proficiency in music technology and software, such as Sibelius, GarageBand, Logic Pro, or similar programs.
Desirable Criteria:
1. A degree or relevant qualification in Music, Music Education, or a related field.
2. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (preferred but not essential).
3. Experience in directing school choirs, bands, or orchestras.
4. Ability to play an instrument to a high standard.
