What You’ll Be Doing
The Shift Team Leader is responsible for operating, supervising, and directing the operations shift team at the Royal Wootton Bassett Biochar site. The role involves planning, implementing, and monitoring systems to optimise process performance while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on a 24-hour shift system.
As the Senior Authorised Person (SAP), the Shift Team Leader ensures compliance with A Healthier Earth’s Safe System of Work and supervises both AHE staff and contractors performing activities on-site. The role also includes supporting the Maintenance Department as needed, carrying out maintenance tasks to maximise plant availability.
Daily responsibilities include chairing meetings to review environmental, health and safety matters, overnight activities, and upcoming tasks. Strong communication and collaboration across the site are essential.
This role requires flexibility, dividing time between plant operations, control room activities, and overseeing safe systems of work. It is a multi-skilled position that may involve additional duties as needed to meet site objectives.

Essential Requirements
* Strong plant safety knowledge, including Hazops, risk assessments, and safety equipment use.
* Proven experience supervising plant operations, including reporting and troubleshooting.
* Ability to lead teams, organise, monitor, and report work activities.
* Flexible working approach, including shift work and on-call availability.
* Problem-solving skills to develop and implement operational solutions.
* In-depth understanding of Biochar process equipment and its maintenance.
* Accurate record-keeping and reporting for operational compliance.
* Competence in mobile plant operation, including forklifts, telehandlers, and MEWPs.
* Willingness to undertake training for safety-critical equipment and procedures.
* Experience training and mentoring staff to ensure safe operations.
* Industry experience in waste, energy-from-waste, or process environments.
* Competency in hot works and adherence to safety standards.
* IT proficiency, particularly in MS Office, with SCADA/DCS experience preferred.
