Fixed term contract/secondment opportunity for 12 months
This is an externally funded project which is part of a national pilot to improve the management of sudden cardiac death families. This role is an exciting opportunity to help lead on our regional Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) working closely with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (GMSA). The role is a 12-month fixed term position and ongoing funding will be explored.
The post will involve working with pathologists, coroners, and Intensive care units when patients with aborted sudden cardiac death tend to be cared for.

As post holder, your duties will include:
• Co-ordinate pathways with both internal and external stake holders to design pathways
• To work closely with the external evaluation of the pilot
• To work closely with coroners, coroners’ officers and intensive care teams to ensure appropriate sample collect, storage and transport, and liaison with clinical services to deliver a standardizes and holistic pathway for at risk families.

• To lead, oversee and work as part of a sector wide multidisciplinary team to deliver the local element of a national pilot project to improve the management of SCD families. The postholder will work closely with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) project management team, national and regional leads as well as the GMSA clinical leads to ensure seamless delivery in the East of England.
• To specifically work with local coroners, coroner’s officers and intensive care teams in the sector to ensure appropriate sample collection, storage and transport, and liaison with clinical services to deliver a standardised and holistic pathway for at risk families.
• To liaise with the Genomic Laboratory Hub to ensure that samples are received and processed in a timely manner, and that any delays to sample reporting are communicated to the families.
• To work with stakeholders across the East of England to design pathways and help disseminate them across the sector, working with GMSA education and training leads to develop and deliver a programme of education to support implementation.
• The Lead Nurse will work with the BHF commissioned evaluation of the service redesign and present findings to the cardiac networks, individual trusts and the wider GMSA board members.
• Support the investigation of complaints/PALS enquiries, clinical/nonclinical incidents (including radiation) and near misses. Ensures that issues arising from the investigation are suitable addressed and also used as an opportunity to improve and learn within the service. Some of these issues can be of a complex nature.
• Provide leadership and vision to ensure a high quality, coordinated service. This will include supporting the further development of cardiac nurses across the GMSA.
• Be responsible for the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines endorsed through the cardiovascular GMSA steering group.
