An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the ICU/Surgical Physiotherapy team at Wexham Park Hospital, providing physiotherapy care to critical care and post-operative surgical patients. This role is ideal for a motivated and compassionate individual looking to contribute to high-quality patient care within a dynamic and supportive team environment.
The successful candidate will work under the indirect supervision of a physiotherapist to deliver exceptional care within Critical Care and Surgery services. The team covers a 16-bed critical care unit and three surgical wards, as well as surgical outliers and some patients on the private patients unit.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
* Assist in the provision of care to patients, supported and supervised by a senior physiotherapist.
* Administrative tasks such as screening wards, completing ward books, notes, referrals, statistics.
* Clinical tasks (such as instruction/supervision and prescription of exercise programmes) delegated by qualified staff, requiring a range of technical ability, as well as an excellent interpersonal skills.
* Carry out basic range of movement exercises and use of rehabilitation equipment such as chair/bed bikes.
* Carry out clinical assessments independently such as range of movement, risk assessments, stairs assessment and discharge.
* Carry out assessments and education for patients post operatively on the surgical ward.
* Participate jointly in rehabilitation sessions on critical care with registered physiotherapists for invasively ventilated patients.
* Monitor stock of disposable physiotherapy equipment and liaise with the admin team re. ordering items.
* Contribute to the induction of new physiotherapists, physiotherapy students on the surgical wards.
* Participate in continued personal education and team in-service training.
* Supervise and support band 3 physiotherapy assistants and student physiotherapists whilst on placement.
