Purpose of the Role:
To contribute to the development of all aspects of the Driver in the Loop (DIL), delivering continuous improvement and major upgrade projects to maintain our position as a leader in the field.
Role Dimensions:
The role sits within the Simulator Development Group. The work is predominantly project-based and requires collaboration with the other teams in Vehicle Performance, as well as Control Systems, Design and Race Engineering. The role also involves working with external partners, such as universities.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Develop and correlate simulation models of the DIL simulator motion system.
2. Propose, implement and test refinements to the simulator motion controller and motion cueing algorithms.
3. Conduct research into human factors to improve understanding of the driver as a control system.
4. Develop and refine offline simulation tools to aid correlation and vehicle performance development.
5. Assist with the development and commissioning of motion system upgrades.
6. Contribute to project planning and reporting, including writing business cases, specifications and project reviews, and delivering presentations to key stakeholders.
7. Propose and champion innovative technical concepts & development opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
1. Master’s degree or higher within an engineering discipline.
2. Strong analytical skills underpinned by a data-driven approach.
3. Proven experience in a Vehicle Dynamics role in high-level Motorsport.
4. Deep understanding of how a car's systems interact to affect performance.
5. Previous exposure to track/race/simulator environment.
6. Skilled in programming languages like Python, C++, or MATLAB for data processing and tool development.

McLaren Racing Composites (MRC) is based at the McLaren Racing Composites Facility in Woking Business Park.
