Responsibilities To use effective communication. Works well within a multidisciplinary team. Deals with worries, queries or concerns a patient may have in a timely and sensitive manner. Assists patients with any personal needs whilst on the department. For example; assisting patients when they need to use the toilet, emptying catheter bags. Observe vulnerable patients on the clinics they are running and facilitate their prompt treatment/consultation. Assists with transferring patients as per the trust policy. Reports promptly any untoward incidents involving patient care. Acts as a chaperone. Identifies patients who have had an extended stay on the department and provides them with food and drink. General Tasks Always ensure patient safety. Report faulty equipment and arrange for its repair. Assist with unpacking stores. Report when stocks are low. Undertake any other duties when requested by a registered nurse. Specific Ophthalmic Duties Visual acuity testing. Ishihara (colour vision) testing. Assessment of pupil reactions (RAPD). Intra ocular pressure measurements (iCare). Auto refraction. OCT scans (imaging). Obtaining eye swabs. Please refer to the job description for further details.
