Aintree is a hot site for acute care, including a major trauma centre and acute emergency surgery. The Speech and Language Therapy services provide complex assessments in line with National standards, including access to instrumentals such as videofluoroscopy and FEES.
Vacancy 1: 1.0 WTE to join our acute inpatient stroke service delivering high-quality care at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Trust, rotating across Aintree and Broadgreen. This post will work across SEAC, HASU, and stroke rehab, including Early Supported Discharge, providing opportunities to develop skills and experience across the stroke pathway with support for areas of special interest.
Vacancy 2: 1.0 WTE to join the Aintree acute inpatient speech and language therapy team providing assessment, treatment, and recommendations for patients in specialties such as medicine (including respiratory and DMOPS), surgery, and major trauma.
These posts would suit an established band 6 looking to further develop their specialist skills in an acute environment or a suitably experienced band 5 for a training post Annex 21.
The successful applicant will need to have a good level of experience working in an adult acute inpatient environment and managing a busy dysphagia caseload. You will possess excellent communication skills, demonstrate the ability to work flexibly, and have a good understanding of MDT working.
You will receive regular supervision and an annual appraisal to support your training and development, including opportunities to complete service improvement and audit.
You will be responsible for:
1. Speech and language therapy assessment, clinical diagnoses, and implementation of agreed treatment plans.
2. Evaluating care delivery needs for routine and complex patients across the stroke pathway.
3. Accessing peer support, regular supervision, and training opportunities including videofluoroscopy.
4. Leading service development, audit, and research.
5. Supporting the development of others including band 5, band 3 staff, and students.
6. Providing training sessions within the wider MDT.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. Responsibilities include:
1. Undertaking assessment of patients, using specialist clinical reasoning and assessment techniques to differentially diagnose, then formulate and implement treatment plans with advice and support from seniors as required.
2. Continually evaluating the efficacy of the treatment programme to ensure that it meets the needs of the patient using outcome measures.
3. Working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team – attending meetings/case conferences where possible, actively encouraging information sharing to enhance the quality of care to patients and staff.
4. Ensuring effective communication with patients, carers, and other Health Care Professionals regarding all aspects of the patient’s care.
5. Helping other Health Care Professionals communicate with patients who have impaired language skills using alternative communication systems where appropriate.
6. Advising, assisting, and supporting less experienced therapists and assistants in the management of their caseload.
7. Working closely with Community staff to facilitate a seamless rehabilitation service across the city.
8. Carrying out videofluoroscopy with senior S.L.T., developing skills to analyze and report findings.
9. Undertaking research as requested by the team leader.
10. Collecting patient data including SSNAP and team performance data as required by the Head of Department.
11. Advising the Head of Department of any change in caseload profile which impacts the service provided to facilitate planning.
12. Monitoring equipment and material for condition and suitability. Submitting orders via head of department.
