Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Acute Oncology Team at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation trust. As an Acute Oncology Nurse Practitioner you will provide a pivotal role in the development and delivery of this service. Individuals with cancer present for emergency assessment via many routes. You will work in partnership with colleagues from a variety of disciplines to strategically streamline pathways so that the patient receives expert assessment and treatment for their unique requirements. Your role will involve reviewing patients who present with oncological related emergencies as a result of their SACT or cancer, whilst providing expert advice and support to improve patient outcomes and reduce the need for hospital admissions and overall length of stay. You will be part of a dynamic team providing support and advice to colleagues working across areas such as ED, SDEC, IIU and inpatient ward areas. You will be expected to collect data to measure clearly defined objectives in order to monitor and maintain high standards of care and deliver high quality patient experience. You will be expected to work as part of the team to deliver the service over seven days a week, including bank holidays. You should be Registered 1st Level Adult Nurse or Allied Health Professional, with a degree in nursing studies or relevant clinical degree (UK equivalent). Hold a mentorship certificate/Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience. Experience in oncology and have completed SACT competency. You should have a clinical skills accreditation and be practicing as a non-medical prescribing or have evidence of currently working towards this. You will be supported in your role by the Oncology Nurse Consultant, Matron and the Directorate Manager. You will be part of the Medical Specialties Directorate acting as an autonomous practitioner, working independently and in conjunction with other healthcare professionals. This will encompass the skills of advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice throughout the Trust. The post holder will support new ways of working that emphasises a more efficient and patient focused service, and will ensure the safe treatment, referral and discharge of patients with confirmed, undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations in their area.
