Essential Qualifications
* BSc, Registration and Specialist
* MSc, HSD or alternative
* Registered Biomedical Scientist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
* Knowledge of relevant laboratory data management systems and policies. Understands the importance of data integrity and confidentiality.
* Knowledge of relevant quality procedures.
* Health and Safety knowledge.
* Up-to-date knowledge of national Clinical pathology Accreditation standards and their application (as relevant to the specialty).
* Good awareness of current issues within Pathology locally and nationally.
Desirable criteria
* Attended formal management course.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
* A minimum of 5 years post-registration practical experience of working in relevant Pathology discipline in a busy laboratory environment.
* One or more sub-specialised analytical or clinical areas.
* Supervising / managing staff.
* Training a range of 'students' e.g. medical, scientific and support staff.
* Pathology IT systems.
* Working with complex and specialist laboratory equipment.
* Maintenance on a variety of laboratory equipment.
* Participation in audit and service development projects.
* Active liaison with clinicians and healthcare professionals.
* Working in a team and alone.
* Intermediate and accurate IT skills.
* Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination skills for accuracy and fine adjustment of equipment.
* Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
* Analytical skills with the ability to work in a methodical and systematic way.
* Effectively apply skills and knowledge. Work with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to their review.
* Work within safe systems of work and report any deficiencies in those systems.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of working in an acute NHS Trust.
* Experience in presenting data to clinical and scientific audiences in a range of formats.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective Pathology networks with internal and external colleagues.

* Must participate in the required rota pattern for the department.
* Prepared to work flexibly, including participating out of routine hours service arrangements when required to do so.
* Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary).
* Ability and willingness to fulfil the travel requirements of the post if/as relevant - primary place of work as per JD but occasionally may be reasonably asked to work at another site where the Trust has responsibility for Pathology Services.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
